People will say antioxidants (lycopene, green tea) will help to prevent certain cancers but there isn't much scientific evidence to back up claims on this. I work with vitamin D and there is some evidence that this hormone and selenium supplements will help prevent prostate cancer but ultimately, cancer seems to know no bounds. Certain types of cancer have a stronger genetic component than others so it would really depend on which type of cancer you are speaking of. You may want to seek a genetic counsellor. Good luck.

If you can answer this question - you'll win the Nobel Prize for medicine! I had an incredibly healthy friend who died of a rare cancer. She was a nurse and didn't know anything was wrong until too late. My brother-in-law was super healthy thin and active and died of pancreatic cancer. There are some things you can do though to help lower your risks - eat green leafy veggies frequently especially those in the cabbage family. Don't smoke (not even pot!). Eat a diet low in fats and animal products. Stay lean and active. Eat whole foods, not the processed packaged stuff we all eat too much of. Consider a vegan diet. Avoid exposure to toxic chemicals when possible. You may do all this and still die of cancer because some of it is genetic, and some is simply unexplained!

Cancer prevention begins with education about living a healthy lifestyle, which includes a low fat diet, with plenty of fruits and vegetables; regular exercise; maintaining a healthy weight; avoiding tobacco products and excessive consumption of alcohol.
Cancer screenings are very important. Women should have annual pap smears and around age 40 annual mammograms. Men should begin prostate screenings at age 50 and African American men should start at age 40. Colorectal cancer screening should begin at age 50, and African Americans should start these screenings at around age 40-45. If there is a family history of these diseases, screening should start earlier. If there is a very strong history of any of these diseases, perhaps genetic testing would be helpful.
Don't forget skin cancer. The increase in diagnosis of this disease is troubling, so stay out of the sun and wear sun screen, hats and sunglasses. And stay out of the tanning booths!
These are the cancers that we can do something about through cancer prevention education and early detection - other cancers are not easily detected and/or when they are detected, they may not be easy to treat successfully.

Hi, That is a tough one, I know from experience.. I have done a lot of studies in health supplements and I am convinced with the proper supplements and then the old story - No tobacco, No soda drinks, Cut sugar out of your life if you can - use stevia for a sweetner - you can find it in health stores, Moderate alcohol drinking, Moderate excercise, 30 minutes of sunshine everyday with no glasses or hat on.
The healthy body secret is to get your body fluids more alkaline - ph level up to a 7, more oxygen at the cellular level - cancer cannot survive in a oxygenated invironment, improve your immune system, drink plenty of pure water everyday - 1/2 your body weight in oz. of water is a good measure - if you weigh 150 lbs you should drink 75 oz. of water
It may sound tough but it really isn't, it's just a life style change. Contact me if you want more info.
One Great Doctor said their is only 1 disease and that is the lack of proper nourishment to all the cells in our body.

Best thing to do is excersize and eat your fruits and vegetables and it wont even matter if you have a cancer backround. Cancer is caused by all the chemicles in the air such as pollution and waste and all other kinds of things but if you just eat fruits and veggies they kill those molecules thats have went into your body. Nutrients it is called my friend beast thing a human need to live 100.

get a mamogram every year if you are a woman, get a colonoscopy, and if you are really worried, have a full body scan. get blood taken every year, physicals, and just plain take care of yourself and eat healthy and exercise. the rest is in g-ds hands. OH, and try to figure out a way to avoid the stress you have about possibly getting it. i know it's hard, but that could cause it, too.

A good choice of parents is the best way, but that option isn't open to you, so there is not much to be done other than to eat a healthy diet, get reasonable exercise, maintain a good weight, and not smoke.

This will help but there is no perfect answer. Avoid all foods that can cause free radical reactions (trans, burned, nitrates ...) and always drink only carbon filtered drinking water. Stay away from all cyclic organic compounds.
