I won't pretend to know what other denominations say, but here is my opinion...

Catholics hold that both are foundations of the truth. The new testament sprung from the traditional beliefs and stories about Christ and his apostles. Apostalic tradition pre-dates the New-testament, and is an equal source and foundation of truth.

The antecedent of pillar and foundation is the word church; therefore, it is the Church founded by Jesus Christ that is the pillar and foundation of truth. The word Bible is not even there so why give a different interpretation to what is explicitly referred to in the verse?

I would have to say both. Remember the church is the body of Christ- not a sect or religious order defined by being in 4 walls. The true believers and real church are purified by DOING THE WORD. They are the church. So there could be a few people from thousands of assemblies making up the body of Christ. In John 15:2 there are those cleaned by the word and those pruned. (cut out) Only 2 groups- I hope we are in the group being cleaned by the word. Amen

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner [stone]; Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. we are built together for the habitation (dwelling place) of God through the spirit. You have to think of this in the context. It's not Jesus who will be delayed, but Paul. And he is reminding people that they know what is right, and the church, the group, can find truth without him. Paul was having the problem at this time, that everybody what him to solve their problems for them. Could women sit with men? Did the church need to require money each week from the followers? What if somebody cheated somebody else? There were all sorts of problems, and what Paul was conveying is that the group needs to sort that out themselves, that this is what Jesus intended, and not to have Paul as the final word for everything.

It states how we are to conduct ourselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar (a place of worship) and foundation (or mainstay-chief support) of the truth.

I say the Church
