so i've seen this question quite a bit in one form or another...

"why do atheists hate christians?"

do people actually believe that atheists hate christians? i'm sure there's a small number that hate some christians, as there are a small number of christians who hate other christians. but i believe the hate we're talking about here is on a personal level. whereas the question is being asked on a general level to imply that all atheists hate all christians, as if atheists are taught to hate christians. this i believe is nothing more than a lie and false propaganda being spread about atheist to portray them as evil. what do you think?

gwhiz... can you really blame the insults so much though on feelings of hate for you and the rest of christians. certainly, in a public forum such as this any comments you make are open for scrutiny and criticism of any level. i understand that my beliefs are not often the most popular, and so i'm prepared for such comments i might fight as arrogant or even ignorant in many cases. however, i do not confuse these comments with hatred.

adorehim... can you really hate something if you don't believe it exists? do you hate the easter bunny, or santa clause? if you spend your time hating things that don't exist then you've got bigger problems than your faith...

I feel that many christians treasure their 'persecuted' status and will use any 'wrong', real or perceived, to maintain it in the eyes of the world. Anyone disagreeing with what they believe to be holy and right is 'wrong', perceived as a potential threat and is therefore persecuting them.

It's nothing more than a martyr complex on the part of the accusing christian, really.

In a small percentage of cases, there may have been an atheist who was very mean to them or made such a statement, but I've never seen "I hate christians" come out of an atheist mouth here.

ETA: Well, I guess it does occasionally happen here, doesn't it? Hmmm. I stand corrected. I still think it's mostly a martyr complex as most atheists don't get into the whole 'hate' thing.

Generalizations run rampant on both sides of the belief issue. It's not limited to Christians or atheists, which you'll see for yourself if you go back over the list of previously asked questions.

I have noticed a tendency for many atheists to assume that all Christians are ignorant and uneducated. This, like the "why do atheists hate Christians" question, applies at a general level. It's no more fair or accurate than what you're accusing Christians of doing. Both sides are guilty of applying labels and making assumptions.

That's why I enjoyed the evening that Kallan "introduced" the regulars to each other by asking questions about the person. We got to see each other as individuals and not labels. If we just remembered that concept, this place wouldn't be the war zone that it sometimes is.

"Hate" is a pretty strong word. I don't think Atheists hate Christians or even vice versa. It's just that they don't understand each other and don't want to bother trying to. Humans can be such a mess of self-righteousness. To me it seems to be the foundation of ignorance. I'm gonna go out and graze on some flora, fauna or whatever. Let me know when the B.S. is done and over with.

Maybe the person who asked that kind of question is only presuming. He presumed that the atheists hate the Christians because of different belief . Christian are believers of God while atheists are non believers. That's the reason why it is being anticipated.

We should not hate one another because we are human beings. We should love and respect one another whether of the same race and belief or not.

This is a place where we could exchange views on something.

That last sentence has a ring of truth about it. It happened to pagans a long time ago, and is still happening. It all started as Christians elbowed their way into pagan countries and tried to convert them all. To a degree they succeeded, obviously. Their message was an amazing piece of marketing strategy, and the habit of denigrating all other religions by calling them 'evil' sort of just hung in there. To counter criticism of this, they accuse the their victims of what they practice themselves. Most non-Hebraic religions, as far apart as Hindu and Wicca, allow everyone the right to believe what they like, and don't fuss about it. Even the Jews keep to themselves, but Christians and Muslims . . . . . . .?

It's a loaded question coupled with a sweeping generalization. (It assumes proposal A, "atheists hate Christians", is true... then uses this assumption to make a question that is difficult for an atheist to answer, especially one that doesn't hate all Christians.)

You're right, asker. Christians use it in yet another feeble attempt to demonize those who don't accept their god or religion. Once one sees the word "hate", it raises the red flag.

Some athiests will always hate someone and some christians will always hate someone and so on and so on...some will hate because of the belief..some will hate because they are nasty people..either way, there is hatred in every group of people......but hate is not a good thing no matter what it is...we do not have to like someone or a belief..but to hate is nasty, wrong and unproductive..

I think that the answer is the same with any opposing religious side. It's the one's that really hate that make the difference. They are the one's that are actively pursuing the expression of their hatred.

As with the Muslims who hate the West, I would say, " I know that they are not ALL like that, but excuse me if I protect myself while in this foxhole."

I agree. It is nonsense. I don't hate hate christians, but I do hate christianity. As well as islam, judaism, sikhism, and every other silly, superstitious belief system that people feel has value or validity by the mere idea that they believe in it.
