I am a scholar and an evangelistic Minister, and I can promise you that God does call you, but God never left you, you may have strayed and even questioned your Faith, but god was there and only awaited for you to turn back to him.
For a long time I had what I refer to as the Jonah Syndrom, and one day while mowing my lawn, God dealt with my heart, and His Spirit come over me and Scriptures just poured through me; these scriptures I wrote down, and I opened my Bible and the first of Seven very intesnse studies and sermons just poured out onto the pages as I was writing. My wife said it was as if I was in a trance, because it all just happened instantaniously and I knew that I could no longer run, but it was time to do as He was calling me to do. I ministered in Assemblies of God and Baptist Churches, and had wonderful visits with Nazarene and other churches. Listen to your Heart and to the still and suttle Voice of God.

God gives us free will. There will be many test during your life. And yes He call you back and you responded. (thank goodness)
Negative things happen to all of us. Faith is how we get through the tough times. (At least for me.)
Glad you are back. Times will be worse in the future.

Yes Jesus calls through the spirit That inner longing to know the comfort of God. "That piece that passes understanding." If you feel that you have been tested--you have and now you quest for God. Your faith has been strengthened. " seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righeousness and all these things shall be added unto you" Talk to the preacher, he will assist you.

In the first place, God is calling all of us to Him..it says in John 3:16 that God's will is for none to perish but for us all to have everlasting life. He doesn't want any of us to be lost...but because of the gift of free will, we have the choice in whether or not our destination is Heaven.
I have learned that God has not ever failed me, but plenty of people that call themselves christians have.
There is no greater joy, to me, than to be walking in the truth of God's Word and abiding in God's will..and what a wonderful gift of life that Jesus has give to us..to die for us that we might have a chance to know the Risen King.
Come back to God..He loves you so much..and He always will.

I think when God calls you back to Him, you die.
Other than that, if you want to go to church, go to church. If you don't, don't. I'm sure that, if God exists, He cares more about what's in your heart than where you spend you Sundays.

God is our loving father, he yearns for us to come back to him anytime we are away from him. My son is 21 and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Your father loves you much more than that and thinks of you every day. There are scriptures that prove that.
Yes he is calling you back, and waiting with a robe, a ring and shoes to lovingly accept you and forgive you.

God never let's go of us.
It's like you said, You turned from Him.
God is always pursuing us.
Maybe God took care of those unexpected turns.
And your heart is more able to hear Him calling you back.
just remember one think if nothing else, God will never leave us or forsake us.
Keep seeking the face of God, you'll never be disappointed.
