This sounds funny but it works very well. Get some Maalox and children's liquid benadryl (off brands work just as well). Put an equal amount of each into a container and swish with it. It feels better immediately. A dentist told me about this a few years ago.

There is a product called " Cure- A -Sore " that works very well.(it's a liquid that comes in a small glass brown bottle) Not only to speed healing but to ease pain. I'ts no easy to nfind so you may want to call around or have a pharmacy order it. You can also use Ambisole or some other numbing medication used for tooth ache, these are sold over the counter, it only lasts a few min. at a time. Also if It doesn't improve in 5 days or so it may be worth a doctor trip to be sure that it's not infected.Generally canker sores are caused by a virus which antibiotics won't help, but if you gert a secondary infection it could require antibiotics. Good luck, they do hurt

Just before times when you know you will need to speak, eat, or get to sleep, you can use Ora-gel or Numzit to paint on the canker sore. These products will numb the area for about 20 minutes.

These products can be found in the pharmacy/drug store or in grocery stores. Look in either the baby section (for teething) or in the adult oral section ( for pain reasons such as yours)
Numbing medications will not treat your problem, only temporarily numb the area.

The one that answered about the mixture is right on about that working. Also, you can go by the doctors office and get him to touch it up with a silver nitrate stick and it will "burn" or seal it and soon it will be gone.
