I bought the pan first, and then the lid, and the lid won't sit properly in the pan.

If these are very inexpensive items, just take the pan into another store and purchase another lid.

If the pan is an expensive one, I suggest taking the pan and lid to a good auto body repair shop. They should be able to modify the shape of the lid to match the pan. A good blacksmith should also be to do this, but would be much harder to find.

If the lid is one of the "glass with handle" variety, the shape of the pan might be modified.

I once had the same issue with a pot and pan. I found that heating both helps to re-shape the lid; makes them more flexible so it is easier to attempt to re-fit them.

try placing it on the pan upside down.

sounds unconventional, but sometimes it works.

Good luck. if it doesnt work, I hope you can take it back.
