Father knows best my dear. If you want one you will have to WAIT until you are and ADULT and living on your own in a place that allows big dogs with the proven potential to do great harm.
Sorry. As long as you live in YOUR PARENT'S home you will have to live by their rules. And if they rule that a pit bull terrier is out of the question you will have to live with it.
Adopt a shelter dog. Go to www.petfinders.com and find a mixed breed shelter dog near where you live. Mixed breed dogs are even tempered and often healthier than pure bred dogs.

Have your dad read the same research you read. Also when you go to get one be sure you get one from a good breeder. Not all pits are mean they have the rep because they are strong dogs. Many people train them to fight and that does make them mean and it is not the breeds fault it is the breeders and owners fault. My bro has a pit and she is such a sweet heart. He has 2 kids that live with him (ages 6 and 8) and 2 that do not live there full time but do come for visitation (ages 3 and 9) and she is great with them. I also have a few friends that have them and they are all gentle as well. Your father is right to be concerned and maybe you should even try getting one from a shelter as they completely temperment test all dogs and they will not put any dog into a home that shows any sign of aggression. Your dad could then meet the dog and talk with the adoption counselor and they may be able to help you convince him. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

I have 3 Pit bulls right now and not one of them is mean or aggressive. The breed has a bad reputation because of bad owners. If you were to provoke one of my dogs, would it attack you? of course, and so would any other dog. The difference is if a Pomeranian attacks, you probably wont be seriously injured. Pit bulls are not bad.
Now has your dad had any experience with Pit bulls, or is he just going off what he has heard? I suggest that you find a local breeder and see if they will sit down with you and your dad. Find out how they live with their dogs and the stereotype. You might think a pit bull is the perfect dog for you, but it never hurts to be sure. You and you parents need to be positive that this is the right dog for you. I do not know of any responsible breeders that would sell to a minor with out their parents consent.

Well, if your father is against the breed, then convincing him to allow an American Pit Bull Terrier into the house, is probably not possible.
What you can do, is volunteer with a local shelter, since there are MANY Pit Bulls that come through them. You can find one that shows a wonderful & sweet disposition, then you can introduce your dad to the dog.
That's about the only way to do it. Otherwise, consider a different breed.

If you live in ontario where they have to be leashed and muzzles when out in public, chances are that your dad might think you will get bad publicity or get hurt by the dog. This is not true, as some pit bulls are as friendly as poodles (well considering poodles ARE friendly!). Have you owned bid dogs before? Pit bulles can pack alot of punch, and it is wise to have an owner both experiences with large dogs, obedience training, and aggression issues. If you haden't had a big dog before, or will be too busy for one (like at school) then you should not get one. Do you have a big enough yard? And consider where you wiill get one. A dog is really expensive, and I say that if your dad is experienced with dogs, its best to trust him. If your dad thinks that the dogs are dangerous though, if you have a neigbour who also owns one you can offer to walk their dog on a daily basis. Show your dad that you can handle big dogs just fine, maybe he will give in to you.
Good luck anyway!

Hmm parents are tricky. Try educating him and be patient...maybe print out some info on them so he can see that they can be great dogs if they're trained right. If he doesn't budge, then you could always settle for a different breed. There's so many out there, I'm sure you could find one that you like. And vow to get as many pit bulls as you want the day you move out. LOL. Good luck with this, I know parents can be unreasonable.

how old are you? it might be that you're too young to have a huge dog like a pitbull.
also, pitbulls are dangerous. not ALL of the time, but they're known to go a bit crazy when they get older and attack their owners.
anyways, if you really really really want one, get a whole bunch of sites on pitbulls, their behavior, and how to take care of them.
staple all the pages together, then write a looong letter about a page or two to your dad and tell him how you're going to take care of the dog. tell him about the bad things about the dog and how you're going to fix them, and compare them to other dogs saying it's smarter or easier to take care of or whatever.
this is what i did when i was younger, and it always worked xD
