What is the cheapest way to get from gatewick and heathrow airport in London? I'm trying to get from Gatewick Airport to downtown and heard it would be cheapest to take an intra-transfer train between the airports and then buy a 7-day pass to get us around the rest of the week. Any suggestions?

There is no direct train service between Gatwick and Heathrow Airports. The only way to travel by train from one airport to another is by taking the Gatwick Express into London Victoria, then a Circle line Underground train to Paddington main line station, where you can catch the Heathrow Express train. There are various other ways of doing the transfer by train, including catching a service train from Gatwick to Redhill, then another to Reading and catching the connecting bus. All of these options, however, will take hours. For transfer between the two airports the best alternative is to catch the connecting bus service which runs very regularly. This is priced according to the 'zones' it covers. If you are only interested in getting around central London a 1 or 2 zone card will do. Not sure what you mean by that. If you want to go between Heathrow and Gatwick then bus takes an hour depending on traffic and is pretty much the only way, since there are no trains between them. Though plan for at least 3 hours if you go this way. If you mean to get from Gatwick to central London it's best to take Gatwick express train that gets you to Victoria station in 30 minutes. Though travel cards and oyster cards are not valid on them since the service is independently run. from Heathrow to London, there are airport buses, but the cheapest way is by subway, which takes an hour to central London but is a pain if you have big luggage. Don't take the heathrow express since it's a waste of money and only gets you to Paddington station.

Train is the quickest, with the bus slightly cheaper. You can get a lot of this information from the airport authority website:

The underground train/bus system is the cheapest way to get around London, so the 7 day pass will be a good option.

In my opinion you can book a private transfer service. I've done this journey and it was fine.
