Opinions Please! - Gary Fisher Marlin GS (womens)?

Question

I just put money down on a Marlin GS. I am very excited but nervous because it is over $500! This will be the first bike I have owned that didn't come from a discount store such as Target or Walmart.

The only thing that concerns me about the bike is the small seat. After getting home I looked at my current bike and the seat is just a bit bigger. I'm 32 so I don't really want a granny seat but don't want a sore butt either.

The Gary Fisher is an excellent bike. Just FYI, Fisher is owned and manufactured by Trek. They manufacture a great bike. In my experience, Fishers have comparable Trek models but tend to be geared more towards the enthusiast.

Don't worry about the seat. If there is something you don't like about a particular bike...change it. The saddle is the most commonly changed item on stock bikes, expecially for women. At our store, we have a bin of seats that have been upgraded. We generally allow people buying new bikes to pick one of these saddles for free. If they can't find one that suits them, we have aftermarket saddles starting at about $15. Ask the salesman what other options they have.

If you want an comfortable seat, then check out Books Saddles. They are made in London. Although they are made out of leather and don't look very comfortable, Brooks Saddles are the best I've ever seen. Everyone who rides my bike says the they love how comfortable the seat is. Check them out. If you do get a Brooks Saddle, you'll fall in love.
