There is nothing called punishment and reward. It is all cause and effect. We by our own assessment consider those as rewards what we desire and get; and consider others as punishment which we do not like or desire. Life is a continuity and the bodies change according to the laws of time and space. As compared to the present the past is referred as the previous life and we get what we deserve as our dividend or share. Therefore, the scriptures always advise to not do some thing to others what you can not do to yourself. That is misdeeds will result in events not desired and carried over to the next life, in case one has no more longevity to his balance.

Attachments follow you, but you aren't punished for bad deeds per se. You *will* carry around negative thought patterns from a previous life, even if they resulted in no actual action.
However there are cases in which action does not cause reprisals. In many cases, there is no clearcut case of right and wrong from the stand point of the individual. Take for example the case of a low ranking Nazi soldier in Word War II . . . someone who is egalitarian at heart but bound to his homeland . . . if he is orderd to do certain things, he can acquiesce, or revolt . . . the acquiescence would mean killing innocent people, but the revolt against authority may put his own family's life in danger. What is the correct course of action? Such a soldier in his next life may be plagued by guilt and confusion resulting from the conflict, but whatever choice he chose in the previous life would have been a bad one since there were no good decisions available to him.

There are many problems with the salvation-by works doctrine of reincarnation. First, there are many practical problems. For example:
1. We must ask, why does one get punished for something he or she cannot remember having done in a previous life?
2. If the purpose of karma is to rid humanity of its selfish desires, then why hasn't there been a noticeable improvement in human nature after all the millennia of reincarnations?
3. If reincarnation and the law of karma are so beneficial on a practical level, then how do advocates of this doctrine explain the immense and ever-worsening social and economic problems - including widespread poverty, starvation, disease, and horrible suffering - in India, where reincarnation has been systematically taught through out its history?
There are also many biblical problems with believing in reincarnation. For example, in 2 Corinthians 5:8 the apostle Paul states, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." At death, the, the Christian immediately goes into the presence of the Lord, not into another body. In keeping with this. Luke 16:19-31 tells us that unbelievers at death go to a place of suffering, not into another body.
Further, Hebrews 9:27 assures us that "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment." Each human being LIVES ONCE as a mortal on earth, DIES ONCE, and then FACES JUDGMENT. He does not have a second chance by reincarnating into another body.

No my friend you donn get punnished for misdeeds in previous life because you have to pay for your misdeeds in the same life that you are living in one way or the other... so remember if you can't do any good to anyone then atleast don't do bad for any one.. thats the way to prosperity...

Why somebody is born blind or deformed in this life?.
Why is children of same parents different, one ugly another beautiful or one is literate another illiterate.
Is it God's cruelty or partiality that he puts someone in nice situation and somebody else in worse situation?.
No. God is equal to all without being impartial to anyone.
It is one's own actions that puts persons in different situations.
If somebody studies nicely in school, naturally he will get good grades during exams in the future. It is a past life, may be one day, one week, one month, one year, one decade, one century or even one thousand years of life which affects one's present condition of life.
We understand small amount of previous time scale which is a previous life, like in the previous life of one minute if one ate salt, then in the next life of another one or two minutes one feels thirsty . We can not comprehend huge time scales of different lives. Therefore, we tend to think it does not exist. .

We can get out of this ordeal of getting punished, by understanding what we actually are.
We are all constantly getting punished, and it is the God who is constantly trying to make us happy eternally. We dont understand God and are therefore in this mess.
It is an opportunity to be born as a human being and we need to find a true saint to help us out. Obviously if we waste our lives, we will not come out of the ordeal that we are in.

I'm not aware of that.
I'll have to mention-I find it a little confusing how people here could deny the existence of previous lives when there have been documented cases of children recalling past life experiences.

Not punished. Given an opportunity to make amends or experience whatever is needed to learn & growth.
It's our choice as to how we want to work through past life issues.

No, I am still being punished for Eve's "little snack" and as I am the 10th generation of one of "life's little mistakes", I am not allowed to go to church, either.
Deut.23:2 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD.
So I am not punished for MY past lives, but for my distant ancestors' mistakes. Talk about unfair!

No. There is no such thing as hellfire, purgatory, or reincarnation. Even medical researchers have studied those who believe reincarnation, & why -- & agree.
