Firstly there is nothing called sin or punishment. All punishable actions are called sin, because we do not like certain events that happens to us. But each and every thing that happens to any one is in a way authored by him. The universal law is for each and every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Those take place in this life itself and if for certain reason one does not live the balance is carried over to the next life along with the assets and the liabilities.

There are consequences for sins in this life. If you are a non believer you just store up wrath against yourself for the judgement time after you die. God is a Judge and is fair.....a person who was a mass murderer in life and denied Jesus will have a different 2nd death than a person who was kind to others yet still denied Jesus. Even secret sins will be revealed at the judgment.

As we sin in this life and ask God for forgiveness, he will forgive us; however, he does not guarantee that we will not suffer the consequences of our sin. The next life? You will only be punished if you reject Jesus, the Son of God. Then you will receive eternal punishment. Hope that helps you.

There is only one sin that we are relentlessly doing, and that is, not understanding that, we are basically souls in our perishable bodies. Understnding this is the actual step towards being a believer.

Once a person becomes a believer, there is no punishment for him/ her in this life as also in the next lives.

Romans 6:23, “the wages sin pays is death.”

Romans 6:7 For he who has died has been acquitted from [his] sin.

Death is the punishment of sin and nothing more. Man could suffer at the time he commited the sin or when he feels the consequence of it...but there's no torture punishment of anything, just death.

I heard we are punished in this life for our sins. That is why there are some diseases. I could believe that. Such as if you don't have sex until you are married (same with your partner) then you can't get a sexual disease. Right?
I think they all get tallied at the end when you die, and if you are over a set point, you are evil and down you go.

If you seek forgiveness now and repent ,your sins are forgotten by God, you will not be judged on your sins you will be judged on your works. But if you do not seek forgiveness and repent you will have to pay for those sins in the after life. God gives you the choice of which path you will follow. The path to Him or the path away from Him, you choose

In both, actually, regardless of what the atheists say, and that punishment comes, in this life, in the form of less good things happening to you and more bad, in the next life, which will be hell, if you are unsaved, it's the eternal lake of fire, as well as a total separation from God.
