How do you use "recount"?

Recount has two definitions. One, where you are counting something again, and the second, when you re-tell a story.

Examples:
The votes had to be recount in order to determine who the winner was.
He recounted an interesting anecdote about his childhood.

They are both correct, and they are neither is used that often. There are many synonyms to use for the second use, none I can think of for the first use.

Recount should only be used when actual numbers are being checked, otherwise recall is probably better.
Example "There was a recount of votes" "He had trouble trying to recall the details of the event"

the only way i can think of it being used is to recount money or something, but i think beachbabe means "I recall when i found that penny"...
