I'm not a doctor but logic dictates (and I have used more than the recommenced amounts before) that taking more than recommended won't provide any significant pain relief.

Me...I'd go pick up some topical anesthetic that you can put on your tooth and gum. If that doesn't do it....
I'd contact my dentist and get a prescription for something stronger.

I WOULD NOT advise taking more than 6 tablets of ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin/Brufen/Nurofen) in 24 hours.

I WOULD advise taking ibuprofen with food, as it can upset the stomach.

You CAN safely ALTERNATE ibuprofen and paracetamol/acetaminophen (Tylenol/Panadol) products, but DO NOT TAKE THEM BOTH AT THE SAME TIME...

Start with one product and after an hour or two, if the pain has not been relieved, try a dose of the other product.

For example: Sally took 200mg of ibuprofen for a headache. After 3 hours, the headache had not abated. She then took a dose of Tylenol. 4 hours later, the headache was almost gone, so she took another dose of Tylenol to try to get rid of the last of the pain. Headache finally abated and Sally stopped taking Tylenol to treat her headache.

General established dosing of Tylenol is 500mg - 1000mg every 4-6 hours, to a maximum of 4000mg/4g of Tyelnol in 24 hours. When calculating how much Tylenol you've consumed, make sure that you include ALL medications that contain Tylenol (i.e. Tylenol with Codeine, Tylenol #3, Neo Citran/LemSip/Night Nurse, Sudafed Head Cold & Sinus etc) in the count if you've been taking that in addtion to plain Tylenol... it doesn't matter if there's codeine or other ingredients, it's the total amount of ACETAMINOPHEN/PARACETAMOL that's important here.

* * * DO NOT EXCEED 4000mg/4g in 24 hours * * *

DOSING FOR CHILDREN IS DIFFERENT and you should consult your doctor or pharmacist for exact dosing for your child.

Neural impulses (and therefore pain impulses) are transmitted via the nerves. The nerves are formed by different cells which are not completely in contact with each other, believe it or not. These gaps between nerve cells are called synapses and are easily jumped by the pain impulses. However most of the common analgesics (pain killers) put a kind of chemical roadblock on the synapses making it impossible for the impulse to jump the blocked synapse and to reach the brain pain center. Et voila The pain SENSATION has been killed. The pain still very much exists.

the dose for ibuprofen(nureofen) is 10 mg/kg body weight. but for toothache it usually does not give u much benefit, so u better take DICLOFENAC POTASSIUM(trade names: difene, voren, voltral,neoflam), 24 hours dose is 150 mg, u can take it in 2 or 3 divided doses, depends on which preparation u r using, it should be discontinued after a regular 3 day use & u can resume after a couple of days.. u can use neurfen or paracetamol along with it to give u additional benifit.
consult a detnal surgeon to see if u need an antibiotic as well or if u need any other treatment. cos if u have infection none of the pain killer is going to give u any permanent releif

It is better to alternate aceteminophin and ibuprofen. If both can be taken every 4 hours.
Take as Tylenol in 2 hours Ibuprofen, then in 2 hours Tylenol again.

No. It will ruin your stomach. Believe me, if it hasn't worked so far, taking more isn't going to work, either. Call your dentist's office now.
