I would take the baby monitor with me and sit on my neighbors porch...part of me knew it was wrong, but the other part knew there was nothing wrong with it, I could hear him breathing in my ear. I never actually went that far...but I still stay your okay, just take an extra precaution of getting some sort of long reach monitor, and the baby will be walking soon too! But no, I don't judge and say it's horrible...other people might.

The odds are that nothing will ever go wrong, but what if the one in a million happened, something went wrong, and you couldn't get home in 5 minutes the way you usually do? Even if your baby just ends up waking up alone, how would you feel? Consider what you would think if you read in a newspaper about someone else leaving her child home alone to run to the store and the child was kidnapped or hurt in some way. You'd probably think what an idiot the other parent was, to risk her baby's safety just for a couple minutes of convenience. If it only takes five minutes, then just take your baby with you.
My oldest was only a little past her first birthday when she woke up early and tried to climb out of her crib. She fell and hit her head on the way down, and ended up with a concussion. I was in the shower when it happened and didn't hear her fall. I don't know how long she was unconscious before I found her. The worry and upset up having a hurt child was bad enough - I can't imagine how it would have been adding on the guilt of knowing I should have been home.

Kids that age tend to try things that aren't that good for their health. My sister learned to climb out of her crib about then and got stuck a couple times. She also fell out trying to climb down and hit her head a few times. Thats bad enough if you are in the house, but even worse if you aren't.
Kids that age are also curious and wake up from naps very unpredictably. He could do all manner of dangerous things around the house that could kill him in under 5 minutes. Light sockets, pulling down a lamp..the list goes on.
Why not just take the baby to the store with you before his nap?
It is never a good idea to leave a child under 13 home alone. In most places, its also illegal.

Well, i do not think it is such a good idea. I know you can see your house from the store but u wont see a fire that's just starting. The baby could choke. Theres always something that could go wrong that would be out of your hands withing 5 minutes. I suggest you just wait till he awakes and bring him with you to the store. I am not suggesting you don't leave him by his self i am telling, because someone could report this as abuse.
hope you and your baby are well!
have a spectacular life! hope this helps

tough one. It's hard when you are by yourself but it only takes a second for a toddler to choke on spitup. At 1 the baby is probably fairly mobile so he could try to stand up and fall or anything could happen. a baby can wake up in a snap at the slightest sound. Can no one help you for the 5 mins or could anyone go for you? I know my son was almost getting out of the crib himself at about 1 1/2.

You could get in alot of trouble if your caught leaving him alone. Children services could take him on child endangerment grounds. I know its only 5 minutes but, alot could happen in 5 minutes. And just because you can see the house, doesn't mean you can see the baby. You might want to take him with you before he takes his naps if you need something, then stay home with him while he naps.

I dont think that you should do that. It just doesnt seem safe. He is after all only a 1 year old baby. Anything can happen. He is probably already at the stage that he can hold on to the crib and stand up. So what if he wakes up one day and stands up while holding the crib and falls over. I dont think that it is safe. The rest is up to you. You are his mother so it is your call.

I know it seems like no big deal and the odds of something going wrong are slim. Just imagine yourself explaining to the police or the news reporter where you were something tragic happened and you weren't home. You're better off staying home with him. Go to the store when he's still awake. You can go sit on the porch to get some fresh air, but that's far enough.

Don't do that. It's not safe, you don't know what he's doing or what could happen when you're not there.
I know it seems like a minute to breathe and get away, even for a total of 5 minutes. But it's dangerous and you're a parent now so... sorry, until your baby is 18... you have one hell of a resonsibility to take care of and that's not very resonsible leaving him alone... even for 5 minutes.

I don't think it's a good idea. Anything could happen while you're at the store. What if the store gets robbed and something happens and you're not able to get home? What if something catches fire in your home and you aren't able to get in the house to your baby?? You really shouldn't leave him alone like that anymore!!
