Yes, lettuce should be thoroughly washed before eating. Use cold water, handle the leaves gently (no mashing or squeezing), and dry w/ a spinner to prevent wilting.

Yes you have to wash it thoroughly unless you enjoy eating dirt and pesticides and other grubby things that roam the soil. If you wash your lettuce (rinse good under cool water and spin or towel dry) right before you prepare it... it should not be wilty. If it is wilty, its poor lettuce to begin with!

Yes you should wash all of the fresh vegetables you buy inthe store or fruit stands. The are so many pesticides these days you really have to be careful. If you wash it is cold water its will stay crisp. If you do not all of it shake the excess water off and put in a ziplock bag with a paper towel to help absorb the water.

Yes you should wash it. If you wash it as soon as you get home from the grocery store, lay it out on some paper towels to dry for a bit and then put it into your crisper, you won't have to worry about wet lettuce at mealtime.

Ice berg Lettuce: Bring it home and smash the core against the sink and pull it out. If you cut it it will turn brown. Rinse with cold water and drain thoroughly. Bag and put in refer it will last 5 days.

It should be washed immediately before using...it will taste better as well. Only wash the amount you intend to use and blot it well with paper towels. Make sure the lettuce is cold when you wash it and wash it with cold water.

It's wise to wash all of your fresh produce before eating it. No, it doesn't make lettuce wilt, as a matter of fact it keeps it crisp when you put it back in the fridge.
