I'm sick of seeing a question like "where should I get this tattoo?" and there's like 3 answers from people who jump in with something like "tattoos look stupid" or "you'll regret it". If you dislike the art then why are you in this category? If the question was "what is your view on tattoos?" then that would be perfectly fine to say you don't like them then.
Anyway, thats my rant, thanks for reading.

danielpauldavis, did you even read the rest of my question? your opinion isn't wanted! that was the whole point, and you missed it despite all that "wisdom" you were obviously trying to convey.

For the third and (mainly) fourth answerers: we're not here to debate tattoos, and if you don't know yourself well enough to the point where you're not sure if you will like something when you're old, thats your problem, not everyones.

I completely agree with you Mike. They are really getting bad lately.
To the haters: Not everyone regrets their tattoos! Most people get them because they have a meaning. Some even go as far as the tattoo being a memorial tattoo. One of my friends was killed in Iraq on January 25th. He had a choice not to go to Iraq since he was the only son and the last to carry on his family's name. He chose to go so that someone else could come back. He was always there when someone needed help. Even if he didn't know you, he would help you if you needed it. Two of his sisters and his brother-in-law got the same tattoo as a memorial tattoo for him. Its a tattoo of his dog tags with In Loving Memory and his birth date and the date his life was taken(you can see it here http://brickwall.www1.50megs.com/l_d557cc45342d960dcb0056e22e87eddd.jpg ). You obviously have no idea why people get tattoos, and are so shallow and closed-minded that you categorize those that do get them. Don't come here and start bashing people just because you don't like tattoos. When someone asks a question about placement of a tattoo, they have already decided that they are going to get it, so you are not going to persuade them to not get it. You are merely showing that you are shallow, and you are wasting your breath. Those that say how bad they will look when you're 60, 70, 80, etc., YOU aren't going to look good either! Your skin will be sagging just as much, if not more, than everyone elses will!

I am glad you asked this question because I was wondering the same thing! I only started poking around here a couple of days ago and was wondering why people who are so against tattoos were in the section. I wouldn't waste my time going to other sections to give my opinion on why it's bad.
I'm 39 and got my first tattoo when I was 38. I have had people tell me I will regret them when I'm old. (Some might think that is already old!) When I'm old I really won't be wearing the type of clothes that will show them off anyway. What I would regret is making decisions based on what other people thought. I did that when I was younger and I really don't care now. I'm finally figuring out who I am and am sorry it took me so long.
Tattoos are becoming more main stream. There are a lot who probably do just pick something off the wall just to get one, but for the most part, at least around here - it's not so easy to just walk into a shop and get one done right then. They usually require an appointment. Gives people time to think about it I suppose.

I guess as each question comes new they are posted in a general page so all categories are listed. I don't think for the most part they come here just to do this. However, I think it is harassment if the person is asking a question about tattooing, not for an opinion OF tattoos, and they get that sort of answer. It would be as bad as if someone was asking how well minoxidil works and I responded with ..ewwwww...I hate bald people. Seriously. I would and do report the answer. If a couple people do this, the answer will be eliminated. Just like those stupid spam answers selling skin stuff and nikes.

I feel ya rantin~mi amigo, some people who are quick to be sarcastic about anyone getting a tat, is people who have a tick about the trends in life that they can't blend in well. Tat's are becoming a trendy thing lately, it's perfectly normal for folks asking around for what ideas/types/ suggestions for a tat.
For those who say that tat's look stupid and such, perhaps they are 'old fashioned' and again not very artistic minded...I am artsy minded and like any design, colour and whatever bizarre, as it's the way of describing a person's style.
Just to add this little piece that I have discovered, after watching a clip of guys in gangs on TV, one part was talking about one guy who had tats on both arms that indicated which gang he belonged to-it was coded. But because of his gang activity got him in serious trouble with the law, and his probation officer had this 'strong belief' that the young guy had great potential in life in the office or open his own business.
The only thing that kept the young guy from changing careers, was the coded tats, put him at risk of being discovered and his life would be in danger from his former gang members, he had to stay in hiding for a good lifetime. The prob officer offered to have the guy's tat removed so he can gain employment. He did have pride in his tats, but painfully regret to having it removed. I feel for the guy, just wished it was just a art thing, and not to brand himself part of a gang.

Didn't you know? All the haters think that they will be drop dead gorgeous at the age of 80 cuz they won't have sagging tattoos (that was some serious sarcasm). If they don't have any tattoos, they don't have the right to say an inked person will regret it. I have 3, I am getting a 4th, I am a married accountant and I have never regretted my decision.

Thanks for the rant...I was wondering the same thing!! But I'm also highly annoyed at some of the silly questions like "ideas for tattoos?" "should I get this?", and of course, "does it hurt?" And the answers never cease to amaze me, either. "How do you think it's going to look when you're 80???" Let me tell you, when I hit 80, if the only thing I'm concerned about is the look of my tattoos, then I'll be a lucky lady.
Anyhoo, those are my two cents!

The reason why this topic is here is so people can "comfortably" ask questions and hope to get an informative answer, not the belittling from other people who don't like tattoos. I am so tired of looking at questions too and finding these answers that berate and put the asker down. It is our choice to get tattoos, it's our bodies, and like someone else said, it's not like we just go in and pick something off the wall, and say "I like that one, it's pretty!!", we put alot of thought into what we want to put on our bodies, because it means something to us.
Thanks for the rant, I can rant too!! =]
And, I love my tattoos, and I will be getting more.
