you continue for pray for God's mercy on his/her soul?

Often than not, i heard my catholic brethren said their love ones going to heaven, and what worries me most is that they might stop praying for their soul as such. baptism does not automatically guarantee a straight entrance to heaven and it is utterly important to continue to pray for god's mercy for them than to ASSUME they are in heaven.

If you are Catholic, you should have heard of the term purgatory.

it is a nice and loving thing to pray for someone else's salvation...however, no amount of prayer after someone has died will change a thing about whether they get to heaven-this is not 'american idol' where the audience gets to vote. Christ has been given the authority and the keys, and He explained the way to salvation quite clearly and plainly-as a Christian, that is what i believe. i cannot presume to know who is or isn't going to heaven...i only know my own destination. purgatory is a concept created by fallible man, maybe in order to ease the suffering of those who fear their loved ones aren't going to heaven and are convinced that there's no way their loved one should be hell. just my opinion, based on my reading of the gospels

The answer to your question is simple. If they accepted Jesus as their lord and Savior before they died, then they definently made it to heaven. The bible cleary states that in order to inherit everlasting life, you must accept Christ as your Lord and Savior.

No, I do not assume such a preposterous thing.

I assume that they died, and no longer exist, in any form, anywhere.

It's a healthier and less delusional approach to death than what you're talking about.

one cannot assume, only God holds the scales and makes final decisions. with our brains, of which we only use 10%, we are in no position to assume how God judges another person.
