What if I was to say I was going to denounce Christianity, would I be accepted with open arms by those that do not believe in Christianity?

Please answer truthfully.. :)

If so, then why cannot we all accept others, no matter what their beliefs are (after all I would still be the same person) only my beliefs would have changed..why must we like one another just because they believe just as we do?

Do we not all hurt, bleed, cry and laugh..

Have I misread the posts about people wanting "Peace"?

Then I see Christians and non-believers alike poking fun of evoulution and Jesus..as well as making fun of Wiccans and Muslims..etc..

Can we not just this once, say something nice about someone who does not share what we believe in.. :)

My Friend "Sweet Pangel" had it right..

We can agree to dissagree, without being rude or hurtful toward others..

With Love..In Christ.. :)

You wouldn't be automatically accepted by me just because you gave up Christianity. Sorry. There's more to it than that. I don't have a religion, and I will not be dishonest and say nice things about someone for whom I have no respect.

I accept any belief a person wishes to have or not have - if you wanted to kneel to a turnip that is your business. My friends come in all different beliefs and non-beliefs but they all have one thing in common - they respect my right to believe as I will without pressuring me to change that belief and I in return give them the same respect.

The only time I ever get upset or mad at anyone in regards to religion is when they try to strong-arm me into believing what they believe. We each have the right to our own belief.

Everyone has an opinion on something. Many do not agree with my stances of what I believe the christian religion to be (I'm an ex-christian) and I will state my opinions but expect no one to agree as my opinions are mine alone. However, if one has skin so thin that my opinions will bother them that deeply then perhaps they shouldn't ask the question.

I accept you as a person and an individual. I do not accept your God or the teachings of your book. I accept my soon-to-be mother-in-law even though she's a fanatical fundie. People (most people) are more than just their religion. You don't have to denounce your faith to be accepted by me, or, I would hope, anyone else. That's like asking a gay man to denounce being gay so society will be more accepting. It's unfair. I know I can get as mean and nasty as anyone when it comes to religion, but I can't see why anyone would think they have to deny what works for them to be accepted by other people. I have never asked that of anyone, here or in real life. How shallow would I be if I did that?

As I mentioned when someone asked us to take the Pangel Promise, I really wish I could agree to such a nice concept, but I know I won't adhere to it. I correspond with several christians on this site. They have a great sense of humor and are perfectly nice people. But I cannot control my sarcasm when I see absolutely obtuse comments from some of the people here.

We only have one life and it is short. A question like this can be difficult to answer, it all depends on the circumstances. If a gun was put to my head and will be put to others as well I would lie to preserve my life and possibly save the lives of others. I would have more chance of doing this if I was alive. Even if it was just my life I think I would lie. Sometimes lies are needed to be told in certain situations. You are onviously a biased christian and you cannot think out of the box, this is ok but you are wrong. Evolution is a proven fact. Your mind is shut to the reality of the world you live - evident of religious manipulation and now you are a puppet of your leaders. This is very sad but you have made this choice so be it.

You are accepted by me as you are. I am sure you would be as wonderful even if you did not believe in Jesus.

Jesus gave us a new commandment to love one another. No matter what people are believing in, this place would be a better place for all of us if we loved one another. Because when we have a freedom to love, we would make right choices.

Jesus asks us to love everyone. So that is what we should do. And we should let God sort us out, because He is the rightful judge. God says that whatever we have done to each other, we have done to Him. : )

"athiests are not judgemental about people the same way religious people are. "

The last thing I want to do is offend, but I've honestly met some prefessing atheists that don't strike me as particularly non-judgemental. I couldn't get a word in edgewise after they found out I -wasn't- an atheist, and I got called some not-fun names in the whole process. And that wasn't an isolated occurance - it's happened more than once.
I think generalizations in general tend to not really work...But. That's not answering the question.

So...I agree with your point - very tactfully stated, and very honest, and true. Thanks for bringing it up - it's a good reminder to all of us. :)

Accept them as what? As friends? We are to go into the world with the Good News. Is it for non believers or believers? Our love is for all, our arms open to anyone. Yet my good friends are not unbelievers. There are some that just want to mock and deny. Leave them alone and be a good example. When they come to you with needs, help them. Some may come to you after trying to live without God and have failed. Some want to know, let them know. But I dont call unbelievers my best friends because I have special fellowship with believers. Not all are children of God. Some are children of the world and its ruler, satan. Peace comes from Jesus.

How do I explain this.

In every group, religion, non religion, you will always have some that would be mean, rude, and judgmental. Due to many reasons, lack of understanding, resentment, and perspectives. We are all slightly made different, and experienced our learning in many different ways.

Perhaps it's all because we label one another dividing ourselves into these groups or religions.

What if we were to rid all labeling, groups and religions?
Is it possible? with God it is, but some won't believe that, God can change it by giving them the proof they need, But God doesn't want that, He wants all to seek him on his terms.
So basically we can only do so much, perhaps it's true, you can't learn unless you have some negativity in your life.

it depends on the person, to say non believers and spiritualist are this and that, is being judgmental.

i am a non believer myself but i see the purpose of religion in society it gives people a moral code and sense of self belief, and a belief that there is a meaning behind all of life's mysteries.

but you should not care what anyone else thinks of your religious beliefs or lack there of as long as you are happy.

There are many kinds of "non believers." Each kind has their own belief system. There is no way to answer your question. Muslims might accept you if you denounced Christianity but not if you failed to embrace Islam. And likewise with many spiritual paths or lack there of.
