It is very true. Chocolate can kill dogs. The dog's system is not designed to digest chocolate very well. It can make them very; very sick and can cause death.

Well here's the thing. Chocolate is very difficult for dogs to digest. However, my dogs have had so much chocolate (5 king size Hershey's bars) and they're still alive. So I'm not sure. DON'T TEST IT! Because it is a fact that is difficult to digest, which is why it is OK for them to have it every one in a while. The more they have at once, the more likely there will be problems. Dark chocolate is the worst for them.

TRUE. It contains a toxin (theobromine) that is cumulative in their system through the lifespan of the dog. Once they hit the max, they start having liver and kidney problems, and by then it's too late. Sometimes, they die from one large ingestion. Has nothing to do with caffeine. Theobromine. Look it up.

BTW, any "chocolate dog treat" is made from carob or a similar fake chocolate, not chocolate. Very thorough info is here:

Yes; chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs and humans. WE can eat it because we can break down the substance and excrete it; dogs cannot. It's a CNS stimulant, and can cause increased heart rate, high blood pressure, convulsions, and death if enough is ingested. Even smaller amounts can give them a really nasty case of diarrhea, and make them throw up to the point that they become severely dehydrated.

Yes, the reason is the caffeine content. . . for example if a small dog eats a pound of DARK chocolate - he is in danger and needs a vet ASAP. . . if a great dane eats a snickers bar - he will probably get diarrhea. . . the highest concentration of caffeine is in baker's cocoa or dark chocolate - birds will die almost always having ingested only small amounts of chocolate
If your dog eats chocolate and you CATCH him in the ACT!!!
You can pour hydrogen peroxide down his throat and this will make him vomit -- this will not harm him and after he vomits take him to the vet to make sure he is OK.

Vet once told me, a dog can be allowed 1 oz. to every pound of body mass. Anything over that, the caffine will cause the dog to ultimatly have a heart-attack.

Yes. Chocolate contains an enzyme that dogs can't digest. It can make them very sick or even kill them. Don't give chocolate to dogs!

It's true. Dogs don't get to eat chocolate bunnies for Easter. So sad, I know, but it keeps them alive and healthy.
