"in Roman times"?????? Not too many genealogical records go back that far (assuming you are talking about the Roman Empire, which began nearly 3000 years ago.) You need to start with your parents, work backward through your grandparents, and then back another generation, and so on. At an average of 25 to 30 years per generation, you would need to go back 100 generations to find ancestors who were living during at that time. That's very unlikely. Take little steps: ask your parents what they know about your ancestors. Then use one of the good websites, like rootsweb.com, or familysearch.org to try to find out more.

First of all, you have to start out with the basics... your name, your parent's names ... grandparents... etc! Go to www.familytree.com and look up some common ancestor's names... there is also www.ancestry.com and if you go to a google search you could probably find a few more good ones! Good luck!

Ofcourse you have asked who my ansestors are.In one of the lectures Swami Sugabodananda said ,one of his folowers came to him one day and asked to teach him the way to find out the previous birth.Swamiji with so many ifs and buts told the follower how to find out his previous birth and his wife's previous birth.Latter he very much for that, because he found his wife in previous birth aws a monkey, and he felt , with a monkey I am living now, he last the present happiness. So why so much you care about your forefather or foremother .If they are not as much you expected now ,your current life will become tragidy.

Good luck with that. There are very few records that show genealogy that early on. You'd be lucky to find your genealogy going back 500 years much less a couple of thousand
