My cat is very strong and a little aggressive sometimes. He also has a bad temper sometimes for no reason? He doesn't like to be petted or to be hold, only if he comes to you 1st for some loving. Those characters make it so hard to chop his nails. But if I don't cut them, all my quilt covers or couch covers are having scratches and big holes. He often goes through the big holes which he has created between my quilt and the covers and jumping/ running around. Headache yet??

I tried to cut it when he was sleeping~After I only got 1 toe, he woke up with his eyes wide open. I can feel his next move would be grabing my hands and biting.........

And, he seldom sleeps, always runs around reaching all the corners really fast like crazy?? Any idea what's going on??

Also, grabing his neck doesn't work at all. All I got is high pitched ErrrrAo ing...and cuffing and kicking...
Also, his last visit to the Vet is not a very pleasant one! It was like 2 weeks ago...The Vetererian couldn't even get him 2 pills in his mouth. She only got 1 in, which is useless. He is a almost 3-year-old, 15-pounder wrestler~
I'm still hoping when he grows older, he will calm down and sleeps more....Sigh...

Right after you've stocked the first aid kit and thrown back a few shots of a good single malt scotch. Then give it a try.

The best time would be when he's really relaxed and/or sleepy. You can try scruffing him (holding him by the loose skin on the back of the neck) to try and immobilize him. I had to do that when I first start trimming my cats nails, but not anymore since they are used to me trimming every 2-3 weeks.

If you still can't do it, than I would suggest possibly bringing him to the vet or groomer to have them done. Or, you can apply soft paws. They are caps that slide over the nails of the cats to keep them from scratching at things. They last about 6-8 weeks.

You'll need help with this one, but this seems to work for me. Sneak up on him and wrap him tightly in a towel so that he is immobilized. Talk to him and try your best to calm him. Have someone else with the clippers reach in the towel and pull out a foot, quickly trim the nails and stuff it back in. Repeat with the rest of his feet. You may have to rewrap him. We do this in our bathroom so that our cats cant run too far or hide under the beds. He will be mad at you for a while, but he will probably get over it. They also make immobilization sacks that you can stuff your cat in and zip it up so that there is only one foot hanging out at a time. You might want to look into getting one of those...

Sorry to tell you this, but cats need a manicure at least once every two weeks.
I can understand you not wanting to do it so often to a cat who is aggressive and strong. Perhaps you can get someone to help you.
You can try giving your cat a treat after the treatment, so after a time, he might understand that something good would come out of his patience.
Good luck.

Wear good thick clothing, Wrap the cat tightly in a towel hold it leaning against you, but not near your face and only have one leg at a time free and get someone to hold the leg and cut the claws.
but only nip the ends off as the 'quick' inside the claw is live

Have fun

you can cut them anytime but with the cat being a bit agressive then you might be better taking the cat to a dog and cat groomer or a vet. it should not be a lot a money cz i was a dog groomer and we did it for £5.00 and the vets would be more money.

Whenever we have to cut my cats' nails, we use more then one person. I hold them down and my mom clips their nails. If you're holding him, you just need to be calm and kind and pet him and stuff. Or, you could ditch the headache and just let the vet do it! ;-)

Hehe sounds EXACTLY like my kitty!! lol but just do it when he's asleep...and I don't mean cat-napping. I mean out cold. Just quietly creep up with a pair of clippers, gently grab his little paw and snip! If you don't get them all at one time, just wait it out. It saves you headaches and scratches, and saves him anxiety.
