My orthodontist told me when I got my braces off is to not clean it with a tooth brush because it could scratch it up and then bacteria and plaque will build up in side of it, I just soak mine in some mouth wash, I put my retainer in a cup and fill it up abit with some mouth, I do this when I eat supper and sometimes after I get home from school. White vinegar might leave a bad taste on your retainer as well.

Simple and easy :
When you brush your teeth, brush your retainer with your toothbrush and toothpaste, If you want you can soak in in a denture cleaner or DILUTED mouthwash. If food is getting stuck on top of it, it probably needs to be tightened. See your Orthodontist. It only takes a few minutes. That should solve your problem.

Take it out when you eat first of all, which is what you're supposed to do. But to clean it anyways, you can use a denture cleaner, or if you want to be cheap you can clean the outside and inside of it with a toothbrush and toothpaste, then with some Listerine or hot water or something like that after, kinda like brushing your teeth.

All you have to do is don't eat with it in. Then just brush it with toothe paste every morning and every night. Thats what I've been doing for the past 3 months and its worked well.
