Does it make them feel powerful, the possibility of affecting someone’s mood or bringing them down? Are they just miserable people who feel the need to spread their negative energy to others? Do you think people in general need to start showing a little more compassion towards others?

Yes, there are a lot of moronic questions and answers on here. I try not to insult that person though, unless they are mean and I think they deserve it. Some people are just born with a low level of intelligence. In contrast, I always appreciate a well thought-out, intelligent question or answer.

Haveitlookedat: Actually I tried a couple of variants of my question under search before I posted my question. I wasn't aware there was that many variations, but honestly how often do you read an original question on here anyway? And I disagree that people are rude b/c they are tired of reading the same questions. Those people are rude irregardless. Someone could say “I’m dying of cancer and my husband just committed suicide” and there’s still going to be some a**hole who tells them to shut the f up.

although i personally have not received very many rude answers (well, at least not until i asked this question lol) i’d imagine there are several people on here who have been affected in a negative way by some loser trying to ruin someone else’s day.sometimes the questions are stupid, but a lot of times they aren’t and people leave bad responses anyway.dovera1c: you are a poor excuse for a human being.if you’re not already a miserable person your well on your way.atiana: i liked your answer; you are very sweet.to all the inconsiderate people out there: GROW UP!!

You are so right. This world is falling apart because there is no more compassion. I am shocked every day by the complete lack of caring that I see among people. I see people caring more about what they look like in their car than the person in the car next to them. I see people who spend more time trying to look like they have money than giving just a meager amount of it to a hungry or homeless person. "GET A JOB YA PUKE!!" They scream out their window as they roar away in the car daddy bought them....I'm talking about people in their 20's and early 30's. I see this: I see people avoiding eye contact all over the place. No body wants to see beyond their noses.
People are miserable. they're miserable because no one knows how to talk to anyone anymore. No one knows how to share anymore. They pull further and further into the little black hole they've created for themselves to live in and don't know or care about what's going on around them. They are negative because they don't let anyone in and pretty soon they're trapped in there. They're trapped and lonely and sad. It's getting worse. The whole world is being sucked in to this giant negative swirling mass of sadness.
I show compassion. I learned a long time ago that my reason for living is to touch others in some way.Even if it's the tiniest touch, even if its only a few small small coins, a smile when no one else notices you're alive, a compliment when you obviously have never heard one. That is my purpose I think. I didn't used to know that. I wondered what my reason on this earth was. I'm not rich, I'm not a genius, I'm not a scientist with the cure for AIDS, I'm just a person. I'm a mother, a wife, a daughter and a sister....just like a billion others. I didn't feel very special. I have my problems. I've screwed up a million times. Then one day it dawned on me that my reason for being here was to show compassion where there is none. I don't know why I felt that way, I just did. Anyhow, there have got to be more of us out there.

I didn't know that you owned Yahoo. If you had told me and others that you owned Yahoo, and that you would rather have people show you appreciation for all Yahoo does for the internet community by NOT goofing around on Yahoo.... Well then we may have acted more maturely, because you asked so nicely.
I really appreciate what you do with Yahoo and Yahoo answers. Please accept our humble apologies for making light of this forum that you cherish.

See, I was just acting and fabricating. I could easily have acted like I was a woman, or concerned parent, or etc.... You don't know the person at the keyboard.
My point: many of you say everyone or about half of everyone is stupid. How do you know what the intentions were? How do you know they were not goofing around?
You don't know. Don't make gross exaggerations. They are a logical fallacy, or a poor argument/statement.
Why are some people rude on Yahoo?
Because they can.
Because some of the questions are pretty bad.
Because they question warranted just enough attention and thought for a smartazz answer and not a good one.
Or, why bother? Let's stick to discovering new information and stop being judgmental. If it were our job or American duty to give good answers, then fine, be upset when you are given BullSh!t answers. But they owed you nothing, why expect so much?

The reason why people leave such rude and obnoxious answers here is that they are trying to be smart. Or,
1. They are annoyed at some questions they see and read and have do not have any patience.
2. Also, there are a lot of people young and older that have such poor self-esteem that it makes them kind of happy to leave such replies. These people just simply do not care for themselves.
3. Also, and last. There are a lot of people are agnostic and non-romantic. They lack compassion because they received none while growing up.
Personally, I think you are brave to ask this question. You sound like a sweet person. You appear to be a young woman. If I were younger (I am 56 but I don't look it) I'd take an interest in someone like who is sensitive and honest enough to ask this question. To me, I feel you are a normal all American young lady, full of love to give, and want to be loved in returned. That's how I feel. So, you don't have to be young to have these feelings.
By the way, I am suffering from depression. Most people shy away from people like me and are negative. I like to think that I have a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), but being a disabled Veteran and living alone is not always condusive to attracting anyone.
"Here's one for you kid" (that's from Humphrey Bogart). I respect you and think you're great!! Especially the inside of you. That's where the real beauty lays.

You may or may not even read this response - I see you have 81 answers - but it may be that when people feel inadequate, they turn to rudeness to cover up their embarrassment. It would be easier to just ignore the question and move on to something where they felt more comfortable, but you don't get points for not answering (either brownie points or yahoo points) and my guess is that some people are just thoughtless enough, and crude enough, that they don't much care how they respond, or how their response might affect the person who posed the question.
Should people show more compassion towards others? No doubt about it. Wouldn't the world be a wonderful place if people did use a little more empathy and consider the result of their actions? That's a lovely thought for Easter.
Have a good day.

Pundit George Will recently had an essay published, not only in the Savannah Morning News but how do you say when any newspaper can buy rights to publish? Anyway in his essay he wrote about the tendency to vent anger, even to cultivate anger, on the part of so many Americans in the public forums.
I think some people, not just Americans, are using this forum to vent their poisonous steam, to let ooze their vile onto the pixillated place we share online. Unfortunate.
How to get them to show more compassion? Maybe lead by example. You cannot any more compell a person to show compassion than you can coax a fish to jump into your griddle. Yes, these folks are probably miserable. Do what they write make them feel more powerful? I cannot speak for them. I imagine the magic of seeing something they have tapped out, however poor, in the public hanging for others to see, gives them a little sinful pride. Oh well.
Let's send up a little prayer for all of us, those who spew toxic verbiage as well as all of the rest of us. A little prayer won't hurt, and it might ease our own aches and pains.

Coming late to the table, as I see there are so many answers here...
I would say that people who leave rude and obnoxious answers here do so because; they think it is funny, they are bored, they've seen the question before, they just want the 2 points, they are stupid and ignorant.
To the person who said "we don't suffer fools", haven't you ever heard the saying that there aren't any stupid questions, only stupid answers?
No one has the right to be rude or obnoxious, but that's people for ya

There are many different age groups of people from many different countries on this website. I feel that 50% of the people take the questions seriously 50% of the time. I myself fall into that range. If I'm in a silly mood, I leave a silly answer. If I'm in a serious mood.... well you get the point. Looks like you've raised some eyebrows here. I've never seen 127 answers to one question before. Way to go!

Fuc^ compassion who needs it GROW up and be an adult why do i need to show someone compassion thats 9000 miles away i'm in the desert i could care less about compassion to others if they want compassion then thats what family is for and if you dont have any family left then you should go and figure that out first and then you'll have all the answers you need!!! This website reflects all kind of people, sort of like a family where little brother thinks you are an a*s*s no matter what you do to dad who thinks you should s*u*c*k it up and endure like a marine to grandma who will stand by you and give you unconditional love and support in anything you do.
That is the beauty and the ugliness of complete freedom of cyberspace questions and answers. There are no censors in here except those who put stars on the unacceptable words.
Look for the good answers, or those that will give you a peek into the way others have handled a problem similar to what you present.
As for the completely idiotic questions, come on, even you will occasionally get annoyed. Dont you?

Part of the problem is there is allot of rude and obnoxious people. They think its okay they think its alright they think its just a good of an answer as the next person. The second reason is that people thinks its funny they think its hilarious and it makes them cool. But there not and that's how questions like these pop up!
