My favorite version of the Bible is the King James Version. I'm a fundamental Baptist and I personally think it is the only correct bible in the English language. Other fundamental Baptist might have different reasons but I personally think so because almost all other English bibles are translated from the KJV so some things and meanings get changed.

The King James Version, because often when a book is simplified (as in The New International Version) many things get cut out and lost. In the Kings James Version I know that I have a less of a chance of this having happened. As far as everything is translated correctly I know it's all correct.

I am very fond of the King James Version, as it is very poetic and the language is beautiful. None of the Psalms sound quite as lovely in any other version. When I memorize something, like the story of the Nativity found in Luke Chapter 2, I always memorize from the KJV.

For just reading, or study, I also have a New King James Version. I like it because it tidies up a bit of the language. Not much is changed, but it does get rid of things like the "thee" and "thou" pronouns, and other seriously antiquated language. It just makes it a bit easier to read.

Those are my two favorite versions--both pretty close to one another, really.

I like the original Hebrew! In my experience though, as far as translations go, the New Revised Standard Version is the most accurate. The New Jewish Publication Society is also good for the Jewish Bible (of course, it does not have the New Testament).

For easy reading, I like the Good News. For study, I use the King James and the Interlinear Bible, in Hebrew and Greek.
When doing in depth studies, I use several other versions.

8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;
9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

Apostle Paul was a master at humility, yet he had obtained great boldness in faith. God resists the proud, and gives mercy to the meek and the humble. Paul, which means 'little', was a man of great stature in the Jewish community, blameless in the Law, and highly skill in philosophical thinking. Peter was a great Apostle, but did not possess the skill necessary to reach the Gentiles with the Gospel of Christ.

Apostle Paul has forever been etched in our history as one of the most humble men to have ever lived.

To learn how the books of the bible came to be assembled as such see: http://gbgm-umc.org/umw/bible/canons.stm

Many versions of the bible existed before the King James and the advent of mass printing.

For an analysis of the various translations of the bible see:

For accurate translations of the bible at the literal level I recommend you use the NASB or ESV translations.

the New living translation is my favorite. I really like the doen to earth level of the language. At the same time, it does not detract from the poetry of the writing. In addition, I really like The Message. This however, is not a translation, it is a paraphrase. YOu should be able to find them in any bookstore.
