~figure out WHY she really moved in first, then, solve that problem and she'll go.
(w/ more details we could be of more help.)

You neglected to say why she is there in the first place. Has she fallen on hard times...she loose a spouse?
The best way to initiate a move out....ask her what area she might like to stay...does she want to look for a house, a duplex, an apartment or maybe even a condo. Find out what price range she can afford and then start to help her look for an ideal place. This way you can keep the idea of moving out fresh and constant.
Good Luck!!

I wonder why she's there to begin with.

If there is a good reason - like she is recently widowed, your wife is the only child or only daughter, or you had a baby and she's there to help her daughter and cuddle the baby - then I'd say be patient....

(( How would you like your wife to feel like you do now if it was your mom who was there? ))

In a while, ask your wife in a nice way: "Honey...How long is your mom going to stay with us? Because I understand you love her and all, but we're married and I want to feel relaxed around the house...."

(Chances are, she'll want her mom out too but will have trouble talking to her mom about it...That's her problem.)

Good luck...

Politely sit her down and ask her why she decided to move in and ask her what plans she has to stay in your home and when she thinks she'll leave. Make sure your wife is present, so you guys can all have input in the situation.

I understand that mother in laws aren't the easiest to live with,But that's your wife's mother. You need to respect her. If she has a place to go tell her you guys need Ur space in the nicest way ever, and you love her dearly, but you can't live with too many people. If she needs you guys then get over it. Have a heart!!

If you do not treat your mother-in-law respectfully, you may be the one moving out. Don't forget, this is your wife's MOTHER.

Get up and walk around the house naked, a lot. Just keep saying you forgot she was there or didn't know she was up.

Pee on the toilet seat. Leave shaving stubble all over the sink. Don't flush your number twos. Leave brownie buttons in your underwear and leave them in the hall. Feed the dog cheese (in small quantities) - it will give it gas. Scratch and adjust yourself regularly.

talk to your wife about it, she has to help you out you're a single unit. Or find here somewhere cheap and close to live right by you guys and give her the idea. Or just be horribly unpleasant and maybe she'll get the picture. well good luck!!!!

TEAM UP WITH YOUR WIFE: You need to talk with your wife first about your reason for wanting her out and then both of you work on her together.

CALL IN THE BACK UPS: if your wife and you are having problems then seek advisers on tossing her out.

Why don't you get her an apartment then. Be nice to her, she bore your wife! Maybe try to understand her point of view, it can't be that bad.
