I personally feel after death we go to the morgue and out bodies are prepared for disposal. We are either buried or cremated. That's the end of life as we know it. My outlook on life is to live each day like its my last. I live for my life I'm not living for what Christians consider "after life".

Well, the brain dies, which means all body functions and electrical energy ceases. Then you're drained of blood, embalmed, and put into a large, expensive box which your family cries over and buried. (Unless you choose cremation.) That's pretty much it. You just stop. All your memories, your thoughts, all gone. I think that's why people are so preoccupied with religion. I'm serious here, even though the start was kinda gross. I really think that people are so concerned with self-preservation that they made up an afterlife to soothe their own scared pysches.
People are inherently afraid of things they don't understand, and death is a biggie. And we're arrogant enough when we're young to assume we're going to live forever. That's why so many stupid risks are taken by people. No one wants to just stop being, and I can see how the thought of a life after death could be soothing. That even though the flesh is dead, the spirit lives on. The problem I have is this - the arrogance of those who believe only they and a select few can have it, while others can't. That, and the shades of "if you're good"/ "if you're bad" that accompany it. Until it can somehow be proven, I'm afraid I don't believe in heaven and hell. When you're dead, you're just dead. That's it.

I believe that when we die that's it, we're dead. There's nothing after death, no heaven or hell. It's a scary concept but I feel that by facing the reality that there is probably no afterlife it opens me up and frees me to live my life to the fullest here on Earth. Every day I have to try to do my best, treat people with respect, and do what I can to make this the best life possible because whenever I die, which could be today or in 100 years, then that's it. I have to be held accountable for my actions here on Earth and try to be the best person I can be because I only have one chance. I feel bad for people who believe in an afterlife because they probably aren't living their life to the fullest if they think something better comes after this.

How about this: I will die and my constituent elements will return to the earth from which they came. Eventually my constituent elements will go into space where they will be used to form a new planet somewhere in another galaxy. Isn't that an elegant idea?
Pooh on lakes of fire! I don't believe you and there's no way you can prove that you are right and I am wrong.

I went to church today. Wish some of you would have to.
I use to be atheists but some how found Jesus. I don't care if people disrespect me because I love Him or not. I find that most non believers just try to but down Cristian's. For those of you who do, I am not trying to force a bible in your face so give me a break. I would like to ask though, what is so wrong with following the Bible? Everything that it teaches is good for you and those around you. Weather it be how to eat or raise your children.

I don't believe in an afterlife. I think once we're gone that's it. That's why it's so important to live every day we have on Earth to the fullest. Once we die we become part of the Earth again. I believe afterlife was invented by man to give them some hope. For example, when a loved one passes away, it's comforting to think "they're in a better place" or "we'll see them again someday". It gives a person strength in a way, to help them get over the loss. Sadly I just don't think it's true.

What suprises me is how christian think athiests are such evil and immoral people. Supposably over 90% of americans believe in god. So why is there so much crime, rape, child molestation, lying, cheating, divorce. Obviously your not all the saints you pretend to be, and instead just a bunch of hypocritial people who spend your time judging others. If I actually believed that my life her determed where I would spend eternity in peacfull bliss, thet I would be a NUN. period. Certanly not a lawyer.

Yup, that's pretty much it.
When we die, we're dead.
That's it.
No party, no choir invisible, no meeting up with your dead dog and your great-great-great-grandmother or taking tea with Buddha and Judy Garland.
Our physical bodies are recycled into the chemical matrix that makes up the Earth itself, and I suppose in some way that means we are reincarnated, and our living bodies are the reincarnations of those organisms that came before us, but there's no consciousness to connect to there.
Whatever chaotic complex of chemical signals, neural pathways, memories and social connections that make us what we are die with us. The only way our 'soul' survives is in the memory of others.
So you only get one chance at a good life, and so you better make the best of it. Enjoy yourself, help others to enjoy themselves, and try to leave the world a better place than you found it. There is no higher purpose than that.

i believe that you kind of break down on a scientific level. atoms dont disapear, they bind with other atoms and become part of something else. i am not an athiest, but dont believe in a 'god' either, more some kind of energy. i believe that the soul is not seperate from the body and when the body dies and particles break down the soul goes with it. you kinda become a part of everything.

Just as you said. If you know for sure, other what your priests and ministers tell you, what happens when you or someone dies, I want to know just in case I change my mind about believing in a god.
