read the above article, and comment on the question:
do you think that coca cola corp was right to ban this movie on the grounds that it's offensive, or does anyone out there think it may have been a move towards giving a more "modern" image of god?
at no point do i intend this question to cause any disconcert, i saw this and thought that it's just a little too politically correct, but im not a religious person, so i'd like to see what peoples views are.

its nice to see no flames for once, and to note the link is a link to YAHOO.CO.UK, so it's safe, but i'll post a little here:
ROME (Reuters) - An Italian film showing Jesus Christ drinking Coca-Cola sparked such strong protest from the soft-drinks giant that it blocked the film's Easter weekend premiere, the film makers said.
The film "7 km from Jerusalem" is about an Italian advertising executive who is soul searching after losing his job and marriage. He flies to Jerusalem, where he runs into Jesus.
According to local press reports, he offers the returned Christ a can of Coca-Cola and, seeing Jesus drinking the beverage, thinks: "What a testimonial!"
Apparently Coca-Cola disagreed.
"The multinational's Italian unit sent a legal letter forcing the elimination of the scene in which Jesus drinks the well-known beverage," the producers said on the film's Web site, http://blog.7kmdagerusalemme.it/dblog/

Perhaps they didn't want their logo associated with such a divisive character.
However, I think that companies should not be able to ban references to their product, unless unfounded claims are made against it. You can parody a commercial product or famous person without getting their permission first, at least in the US.

I believe Coca Cola is watching out for it's corporate image. Despite that it's not a matter of offensive because of religious feelings. It's a matter of poor taste. It's something Saturday Night Live would do, or David Letterman. Not to mention the producers of South Park, or The Simpsons. It's just stupid.

Yes I do think it was right of them to ban the commercial.People all over have different view points about Christianity and some might object to Jesus being made into someone symbolizing Coca Cola. When I think of Jesus I want to assiciate him with sacrafice and forgiveness of our sins.I don't want to associate him with drinking a soft drink which I might add is not very good for your health. So I agree with Coca Cola's respect in this matter and banning this from being viewed.

I'm not religious either but i am a business major and it seems to me that with Coca-cola being an international corporation, they may not have wanted a religious portayal of their product. But i see where you're coming from. I mean, does that mean that everyone that drinks Coke on t.v. is supposed to be the role model for Coke?

I have faith that Jesus and coke never existed at the same time. I can understand people being annoyed by having their religious icon cheapened by a connection to something as trivial as a soda.
I'm sure I would sound off if someone used my deities in a way that didn't seem reverant. But since my deities exist without question then I leave it up to them to fight this silly problem.
Anyways, don't "things" go better with coke"? I think there are better "things" to do with our time. So grab a coke and let's go!

I can understand why they wouldn't want it released with that scene. People might think that they themselves paid to have that image put in it and that would be some serious bad press for them. Personally I think the image of Jesus drinking Coke is pretty funny.

Since when does Coca Cola have the right to censor anything?? On the one hand they spend money by the buckets for product placement, then this? Sheer hypocrisy.

Whisky jointly with Chivas or JD is okay yet no longer that tasty coz Whisky flavor somewhat notably spiced at the same time as mixed with coke(gassy). hence Brandy jointly with Johnny Walker( Black label) or Martell will be a more suitable powerful decision. that's a lot less confusing going at the same time as mixed with coke. by no potential blend any 'Blown' shade liquor with sprite. It flavor actual negative like cough syrup. attempt blending liquor with both soda or drink it on the rock. becoz liquor itself comprise very extreme sugar aspect. if mixed with coke, sugar aspect will be like doubled. pay attention of DIABETES!!!. Do keep in mind, a good liquor do no longer require any mixer.

I think Coke is protecting its image. stop If the film violated patent laws by using Coke products. Coke should have that right--I don't think Religion played a part as much as money and possible loss of revenue

Actually, according to the article that I read, which is the one you sent us, they banned the SCENE, not the movie.. and, I can see their point, too often, this kind of thing goes on and then everybody and their brother and sister have conniptions.
