Yes. The policemen are just about the only people in Japan who can legally walk around with guns.

As I recall toy guns. But not dart guns only water pistols.

Actually I vaguely recall reading that the Japanese police are similar to the police in England. The majority do not carry a gun, certain select units do carry hand guns....such as homicide detectives and anti-terrorist agents and when authorized any number of policemen, detectives and other law enforcement officers can be authorized and issued pistols or automatic weapons. This is very rare, done on a limited basis and for a very limit time.

There isn't any Japanese military as in the US. They, per their constitution, have the Japanese Defense Force to provide defense of their island nation .

That's about all I can recall from the article I read.

Police officers are assigned duty weapons (guns) and yes they r real. Not to disagree with a previous post, just clearifying, the tazers they use if any are NOT able to shoot like u see in movies/tv. Any weapon that shoots a dart to carry an electrical charge is prohibited in the Canadian firearms law. Meaning, NO ONE can have a tazer that shoots. You CAN however have a tazer that u have to touch to someone to zap them. As for pellet guns, I imagine that police offices can carry "less than lethal" weapons other then tazers such as bean bag guns, rubber bullets, and yes possibly pellet guns. I've been researching this fire arms stuff ALLOT because I want to join the Ontario police or barrie police. IN CONCLUSION, YES, the guns are real HOWEVER, they can ALSO carry less then lethal weapons.

Most policemen don't carry armed weapons, but some divisions in the police force do (narcotics, for example).

Of course they do. They even build their own fighters and frigates, and there's talks about amending the Constitution to remove that limitation.
