dr. smiths is great. it's expensive but it works fast. you could also have her run around without a pamper on so her bottom could air dry without all the continued moisture from the pamper.

RE:
How can I treat a very bad diaper rash?
I have a 2 year old. This is not the firt time she has has a diaper rash but I usually made it go away in one or two days. But this time, she has almost had it for a week. I think the problem is that lately she doesn't show any signs of having a soiled diaper specially if she has done # 2? ...

Ok the rash could also be from things she eats. If she is drinking something new with acids in them. This is what my childs Dr. told me. He said use lots of vasaline, and it really worked great. Just because she is getting a rash does not mean your not changing the diaper enough, so don't let anyone tell you different. Every two hrs is plenty enough through the day and night. Sometimes what a baby eats is too much for them, my 8 month old is currently switching from formula to milk so when she first started on milk she got a few rashes, plus it could also be the diapers. I learned cheap diapers give my daughter a rash also. I stick to nothing but pampers and huggies.

She is spending too much time in a diaper. If you stay home with her, leave her out of a diaper, out of underwear. Let the fresh air on her bum, and possibly even sunshine outside for a little while when it's warm (put her in a t-shirt but no pants).
Change her WAY more often than every 2 hours.
Get her checked for yeast at the pediatrician. If it's not yeast, then let her expose her bum to the circulating air around the house for a week, no diaper or underwear. This is how I potty trained my son, by the way. You can put her potty out and put her on it every time she starts to poop or pee.

Whenever my older daughter would get a diaper rash it would be almost impossible to put a cream on it because it wuld irritate it so much and she would scream. So I asked a pharmacist once and she said the best thing would be to use potato starch. It may sound wierd but it works wonders. If you put it on your child in a few hours you can see a difference in the rash. If you put it on at night then by the morning there is a significant difference. My kids also loved it because it would feel very cool and soothing on their rash. I think that potato starch is the best remedy for a diaper rash.

I have a great diaper rash cream. Mix in a small container with a lid equal parts of Aquaphor and Maalox(i used the mint) you really have to stir it up so that is gets all mixed and turns white. I would usually do about 4 Tbs. Maalox and 4 Tbs. of Aquaphor. It really works good. I used it alot when my daughter was little. She has very sensitive skin and this was a Godsend. Just apply after every diaper change.

I use zincofax extra strength. It usually goes away in a day or two with this cream. It is extremely thick and is hard to get off of the bum but is great cause it makes a great protective coat on the bum and affected area so that it has the time to heal.
I would also look into allergies. Sometimes a rash and allergies can both be linked together. If the rash persists contact your Dr.
Best of luck

Desiten is a pretty good diaper rash medicine for over the counter.if you want to go the "natural" route corn starch works wonders. One of my children was really bad about getting diaper rashes and my mother suggested it and it really worked. I just cleaned her up really good and put it in diaper like you would baby powder.
I agree about the yeast infection. however, some babies no matter how much you change them can get rashes ie: sensitive skin. I changed mine every time was wet and still had lots of rashes.

zinc oxide would work miracles on her. also use a skin protectant even if she doesnt have a diaper rash. something like creamy vaseoline or balmex. (the main ingredient in balmex is zinc oxide its a GREAT product). from now on keep the skin protectant on her at all times. also u may want to try another brand of diapers. my neice had the same problem and when my sister switched to a better brand diapers it reallhelped. apparently it was a reaction to the diaper itself.
good luck

My daughter is always getting yeast diaper rashes. This is NOT necessarily due to not changing frequently enough. In her case she is just prone to them and gets them although my wife and I immediately change any dirty or wet diaper. Our doc used to call in a RX but recently a nurse recommended a jock itch cream. Sounds weird but it worked perfectly. They are available over the counter and if you put it on after every diaper it works very quickly.

Pretty much everything you'd ever want to know about diaper rash is right here: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T081400.asp
ADD: I agree with the first response. Sounds like yeast to me. Easy to treat, but it might be a good idea to check with the doctor first. Also ... My son's rashes get worse with Desitin. I prefer A&D ointment.
