Christian holidays often replaced the earlier pagan holidays. People were illiterate and they understood things by living them.

The early church took the old holidays and gave then new meaning. People didn't have to give up the baby with the bath water. Just because they used to be pagan holidays does not mean that they are pagan now.

The bible is full of parties and celebration and joy and dancing and, yes, wine. There is nothing wrong with marking the changes of the year by acknowledging it all as part of God's creation.

Nobody had a problem with these holidays until the last few centuries of warped Puritan dourness.

Pagans ate and drank and slept and breathed oxygen and defecated. Does that mean that Christians can't do those things just because pagans did?

Easter is at the time of Passover. Pagan symbols of fertility and rebirth are perfectly consistent with Resurrection.

So, relax and enjoy the life God gave us.

Pagan holiday were added to Christian ones so Pagans could only be at one place at a time. Failure to attend Christian holidays pretty well labled you as a Pagan and a Heretic which could and was punishable by religious doctorate. Kings often had their laws given to them by the church in return for a state of grace in the afterlife. Oh well.

I just got finished watching an Easter history program that stated that Mary Magdelene when to plead Jesus' case and she brought a white egg with her. When Harod wouldn't commute his sentence the egg turned red, which is why Christians colored eggs. This sounds too convenient of a link to the modern colored egg, but here again it was taken from the Gospel of Mary... one of those gospel left out of the bible.

I personally don't see a conflict here because I can share my Pagan holidays with Christians as long as they allow me to pursue my religion without comment! Equal religion under the law.

The church took over most pagan holidays that way everyone could still celebrate while being christian/catholic. Everyone still got a day off, and they could still be religious.

I don't celebrate it, and I am Christian. Not ALL do, I used to before I knew of the pagan history of it.

I don't color eggs, I don't buy or eat "easter" candy, I don't have a basket of goodies, I don't even say Happy Easter. It is a paganistic holiday. I think we should all celebrate that Jesus was resurrected every day, not just one set day of the year, which by the way is turning into a big commercial joke.
