Maybe. If you have overdraft protection for your account. Then yes it will work, otherwise it may not. I would not do it unless it had overdraft protection. You will get charge a fee for this.

These days, when you pay by check or debit, the money is often taken out of your bank account immediately, so if you have no money in your account, one of two things is likely to happen:
1) Your payment will be rejected
2) Your payment will be accepted, but then the debit will hit your account before you can deposit money and you'll be hit with overdraft fees
Small stores are more likely to deposit the actual checks rather than doing it electronically, so you're less likely to get in trouble there, but with a debit card you'll still probably get hit immediately. The days when you could float a check are long gone.

The only difference between using the card and a paper check is the card will hit your account immediately. Given the number of banks offering electronic check presentment, the paper check may take as little as 5 seconds to clear. So, YES, you can use the card just like a check. Your will overdraft your account either way.

Sorry darlin, NO.
I've had transactions rejected for that reason. (Now, I no longer use joint accounts so I know all that is going on! )
Most places have computer technology that can tell if you have no funds available - the same way a credit card will not approve a transaction if you are at or over your limit.
A check has to be deposited in the store's bank - then that bank contacts your bank to transfer the funds... this can take a couple of days.
A debit or check card transfers the money instantly, no funds equals no approval of transaction.
Hope you can hang on until tomorrow. ....And that your pay check is direct deposit. ...Many banks do not make a paper check available for withdrawal until they have cleared the issuing bank. ...Here in Texas, that can take two weeks! (I have direct deposit for that reason.)
Good luck!
Peace.

No your bank will not authorize it since the funds are not available.....If they do you will have to pay overdraft charges ranging from $30-$40. So add $30-$40 dollars to what you plan to purchase to see if it's worth it. I think not-You should just write a check...it will give you at least 1-2 days.
It's only one day---do you really need it today. It will save you money to wait or borrow from someone and pay them back tomorrow.

Not if your balance is already showing negative. If it's not, and you have a pending deposit for in the morning, it may go through without overdraft fees since today is Suday and the banks aren't open.
