I'm thinking of getting a tattoo on my lower back. I want to get my name (Racheal) in Japanese across my lower back, perhaps with some design around it. I know some people think that's trampy, I've also heard (from my best friend's mother's boyfriend) that many men find that very sexy. I'm getting it no matter what I just would like some opinions. Also, any ideas for some color in it because right now, the design I'm getting is all black and I would maybe like to get some color on it. I'm pale, so any ideas on some color combos?

And FYI, I'm getting my name on my back because the Kanji for Racheal is very pretty. It's something personaly to me, and something no one else will have.

Ok....I did not put this question up here to get myself bashed. I understand that some people think that it is trampy, I was just getting some unbiased opinions. unbiased being you dont know me. I've already checked out the kanji, that was my main consern. my friend is fluent and has written it on my back for me already. The reasion i went with japanese kanji is because I think it is not only a beautiful language, but I love everything about the culture. I know the artist, he has done most of my brothers tattoos. As for the childbirth thing, I cant have children so no prob there but thank you for the consern. That also goes for what my children or grandchildren will think of me, i dont like kids and cant have them so i dont have to worry about what they will think.

If it's your name, choose the colors yourself. Any color will show up well on pale skin.

And I agree completely with the first answer by the way.

If you want a tattoo in Japanese kanji, then I'd strongly advise you to check the translation, and the quality of the calligraphy, with people who know Japanese very, very well. (I'm guessing that you don't, because the vast majority of people who get such tattoos have no connection with Japan at all. If you're fluent in the language, then feel free to disregard this!)

Because even if it's done accurately - which is a pretty big if - then it's possible that whatever the closest equivalent to 'Racheal' is may also read as 'mouse droppings' or 'juggling with prawns' or 'synchronised swimming', or something equally daft. Japanese is a very complex language and the grammatical rules don't translate directly into English. Have a look here: http://www.hanzismatter.com/ for many, many examples of tattoos that didn't mean what people thought they did.

I'm also a little concerned that your thoughts on getting a tattoo all relate to what other people will think of it; really, your own opinion is the only one that should count.

Good luck!

I wouldn't do an all black with color. I would try to limit the black. I have "a tramp stamp" so they call it but mine is suited to me and people are actually surprised when they find out I have one but they think it fits me and is very pretty. It's small so it's not like its this big gaudy thing I got so people stare at my back. I don't wear short cut shirts and low rider pants. I got it because it was something I thought I would never be able to do because I'm deathly afraid of needles and getting my tattoo has somewhat helped me over come that but not all together. At least now I don't pass out at the sight of a needle. Some people feel that getting a tattoo is disgracing what god gave you - a clean natural body but that is their opinion. They don't have to live with your tattoo every day. You do. I agree with the person right above me that said use colored sharpies to make sure its something you are going to like because once it's there it's there for good unless you want to spend boko bucks down the road to have it removed. I would love to get a second one but my fiance likes the one I have and says my body is beautiful to him the way it is so that's good enough for me. Good luck and I hope you find a great color combo. Ask the person who will be tattooing it too. They may have a good suggestion. My person actually "softened my design" up a little to better suit me and I actually liked his version better.

Personally I think t is your decision. However I am against all black. Get some color, maybe your favorite colors and something that is meaningful to you. Maybe a few japanese blossoms around it to follow your theme.

But hey, I like to add to it.

Otherwise it's a good idea....Have fun with it...one side note though, those tend to hurt over the spine a bit.

it's no hooker , or tramp, stamp! I think people who are think they have a right to tell you what you should and shouldn't do with your body are completely opressive and super douchebags! When they start to hate on you for wanting a tattoo, and calling you a tramp because you want one on your lower back, then they are takeing away your right to do what you want to with your own body. I hate some people.

I must tell you that I find back tats to be cute, and I plan to get one when I turn 18. And I don't care if I get called a tramp...maybe I am...maybe I'm not. Anywho, if you're gonna get it in Japanesse lettering, I think it would be neat to get like cherry blossoms around it in their pale pink color, but then again, you have to live with it, not me lol. Well that all I got to say!

it depends on what your best colour is- if you look best in green, get green in it, iv you look bad in green, then don't get green..I think it's a good idea to go with your own name, though, even though most of us can't read Japanese, at least YOU will know it's not the name of some ex you hate.
I personally don't like lower back tatoos- too common now.
And they are a bit trampy- if you want all these guys to see it and think it's sexy, be prepared for them also thinking you'd go for a one night stand if you show it a lot.

Pick a really good artist.
Make sure this is their speciality.
Japanese lettering is not as easy
as you might think. If done poorly,
it really looks horrible. You need
to know that the person doing your
tattoo, really knows Japanese art.
I mean you don't want to find out later
that he actually wrote dragon breath..

If it's something that you want...get it!! F*CK everyone who tells you not too!!!!!

Now, with that said...
I've seen some very nice colorful tribal designs...they have a lot of color in them...

Do you have a few colors that you really like?
Come up with a design them talk to a few artisit about coloration for it...they can usually help out pretty well...

(Im not saying you should use these...they're just to help you out with ideas)

You can also try to make your name the design...Ive seen a lot of words hiden into tribal designs which is pretty neat...
Talk to a few artist to see what you can come up with!!

Hope this helps!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

ALSO: to make sure it's something you want/like...get someone to draw it on you with sharpies...they stay for a few days and you can use the colors you want...this will let you know if you do like it once it's on you, if you like the colors...what you want to change...ect...this is how I found out what I wanted exactly with 2 of my tats...Hope it helps!!!!

i have my nickname on my lower back, with a pink star on either side...i luv it!!! also, it`s not something i`ve ever seen on another person, because my nickname is unique, so therefore it`s not like some common design (tribal, whatever) that a lot of people get...i designed the lettering & everything myself...i think yours sounds beautiful, i`m sure u will be happy with it!!!

i think the lower back tats are cute! i'm thinking of getting one, but don't know what i want yet. (it might be trashy if your thong strap was showing too... or if you got a tattoo of a thong showing!haha). anyway, i agree, go with colors that you look good in. red and black is kind of common now but if you wear lots of red, go for red accents. if you wear lots of blue, blue accents, etc.
