They don't want us there, the majority of Americans don't want us there, it has nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks, the real war on terror or American security.

Someone, anyone - why are we there?

I'm baffled - since when does just asking a question make me either unpatriotic or a coward?

When did Americans stop thinking about why we do things.

Not one person who supports this war has given what could even remotely be called an honest answer.

Why do supporters of this war seem to all say the exact same things?

There was none of this cute talk of nation building or democracy in the middle east BEFORE we went into iraq - we went there because our govt stated flatly that there was a nuclear and wmd threat.

To those who say that most Iraqis want us there I say, lets put it to a vote.

Why not let the Iraqi people vote on whether or not there should be an American military presence?

The real reason America is in Iraq is MONEY!!!! The people that make the real decisions in your govt, the people with the real power are also heavily invested in companies that have been awarded major govt contracts, weather they be military, or rebuilding contracts etc. They are making BILLIONS of dollars off of this war while the taxpayer carries the burden to pay for it, and the poor and underprivileged are used as cannon fodder. Their blood is being used to lubricate the wheels of the military industrial complex while people like Dick Chenney and his friends gorge themselves at the trough of govt spending. Take a look at who is making the money off this war. Take a close look. Maybe then America will realize that they have been lied to all along.

Wow, after reading some of the responses above, you people really need to open your eyes. WAKE UP. 9/11 and Iraq were not connected in any way.

Oil !!!

There were no terrorists in Iraq, Saddam is being executed and he was once the great friend of US, and US had made him 'Saddam the dictator' actualy !! so when that saddam turned against US, he was called terrorists but it was okay for him to go on when he was waging war agaisnt Iran and Attacking Kuwait !! still gettin iraqis rid of Saddam was not the US business because that was something their internal which Bush has interfered and violated it !!

No MDW found........and if they say that they were being transported to Syria than this is a a ridiculous excuse..... Iraq did allow the commision to search for the MDW , infact they wanted it to be done but Bush wanted to attack and didn't listen to them !!

If they say that they are there for building peace and hormany then its absurd becuase they have completely failed to do this....and situation is even worse now( again some politics working here too) so again no reason of staying there
and secondly if they are fighting to each other its none of US business....there are other states where situation is even worse than Iraq, why US not attacking them and has mercy for IRaq Only? Sounds Strange huh?

The only justification to this invasion is that Iraq is standing second in Oil resources and Iran as third.......So actualy US wants to get a hold on Iraqi oil.and same is the reason they are in Afghanistan to take care of the Pipeline which is taking this Oil !!

This is all about politics and innocent public would never understand it !

We are there to impose a democracy on a country that is not ready for it. I think when we started this war it for the right reason. We had been attacked and we need to defend ourselves before it happened again. OK done.

The problem isn't the war the problem is we have stayed to long. For what ever reason Bush has enough is enough. I do not agree with sacrificing American lives to try and change a people who do not want to change. who is America to say they need to reform there government. Just because it works for us dose not mean it is going to work for them. There are other countries who are desperately in need of help, and we do nothing for them. I guess to get the Americans involved first you have to threaten the presidents father, and second have OIL!

The people who are currently in power felt for reasons that are right or wrong (depending on your worldview) that it would serve the countries best interest to change the leadership of Iraq into one that would better reflect the needs of the US. So far it does not seem to be working very well. Ask me again in 20 years.

That's a good question. Folks need to stop their silly finger-pointing and start seriously debating this issue. We went into Iraq because the neocons believed that by removing Saddam we would have a strong foothold in the Mideast to combat terrorism ideologically and militarily, intimidate Syria & Iran, and provide more security to Israel. None of these things have worked. The question is what is to be done now.

Money, oil and a misguided notion of empire building. Those are my takes on why we invaded and occupied Iraq.
You don't think 9/11 had anything to do with it? That WAS the justification, based on false information, lies and flawed reasoning. We allowed the Republicans to scare American voters into backing this venture. Now we are stuck with it. Having a " forever war" goes towards increasing the president's executive authority, no matter how many needlessly die to make it happen.

We need some USA heroes. We have too many weapons and ammunition. This way we will have to replenish supplies and hand out some medals to the survivors.

We knock them down, then we rebuild them. Refugees come to Chicago and LA and NYC and Atlanta. Just like Vietnamese all over the country - you will have Iraqi neighbors and grandchildren. The melting pot is cooking soup.
