Thanks for the people who commented so far. I am totally going to sleep on it and now I know a needle is much safer than a gun. Much appreciation.

First of all, piercings are not trashy. Some people just don't know how to appreciate art. Second, you are not too young; I got my first piercing when I was fourteen and have never looked back (I have my labret, tongue, and nipples pierced, as well as an industrial in my right ear). However, I was not scared when I got mine. You might want to rethink it and only go through with it when you are not scared.

As for how to get it done, stay away from the mall and the piercing guns. Go to a professional tatoo or piercing studio, where they will use a hollow needle. The hollow needle sounds painful, but it's the best way to get a piercing. Instead of forcing a piece of metal through your flesh, it takes out a tiny cylinder of flesh, which is replaced by the jewelry.

Last, I was only able to get my first piercing (labret) because my brother was friends with the shop owner. Most respectable studios will not pierce a 14 year old, even with her mom's permission.

If and when you get it done, follow your aftercare instructions to the last detail and don't be afraid to go back to your piercer with questions. Good luck.

PS I just graduated form college, and with all my piercings and tattoos I have been able to get a great job at a small ivy league school in my town, so don't let people tell you a "freakish" appearance will make you unemployable.

According to my friends with nose rings, the needle is the better procedure, but have it done professionally at a reputable "tat" or "piercing" studio and follow up on your home care regimen to reduce risk of infection. This form of bodily decoration has been practiced successfuly for years by Indian (Delhi, not Dakotah) women for years and many find it intriguing if not attractive. Even US males are having it done. Take note that it is a fad and may drop out of fashion in the next few years and more than likely considered as
"freaky," "third world," and "counter-redneck" by those whom think jewelry, tats and makeup are "primitive. I would wait until I was 16 if I were you as you will be surprised at how much you have learned in the next two years and this decision could also make it easier to live with your family. If you must get one, there is some pain, but not as much as being hit by a truck or slapped with an audit by the IRS and you will recover. Do not DIY, get someone with the knowledge and experience to perform the task.

well i hope if u get it done u will go to a professional, i pierced my nose when i was younger, and my lip too, but the nose rings would always fall out or the nose screws would come half out when i was asleep and it just wasnt a very nice piercing to have, i didnt like the look of the rings and it just became a hassle in the end and i took it out. but i definately do not reccommend home piercing! while sometimes it may go ok, theyre are endless things that can go wrong and its not worth the risk. knowing what i know now i would never attempt to self pierce again. anyways, a needle is better (from a professional piercer) they will put in the right guage and right size of piercing to allow for some swelling as well. ur nose doesnt swell that much since it is mostly cartilage but i definately would not reccommend u to pierce anything else urself.

Please please please read about the dangers of gun piercing. I enclosed a link. It is so dangerous to punch a hole through your cartilage(in your nose or anywheres else) with a blunt object that isn't even properly steriliezed. Most places use Windex!
A nice, sharp needle that is completely sterile and will slide through your nose like butter, followed by equally sterile jewelry done by a proffesional piercer is the way to go for any piercing.
It's not hardly painful at all, and you're at much less risk than with a gun.
My sister had her nose pierced when she was 8, and she is 20 now, so don't let anyone tell you what you should do with your body. (except, please let me talk you out of using a piercing gun!)

well my advice would be to not get one at all (what's the point?) but to answer ur question: The needle is probably the best if done by a professional (doing it urself would make it more painful)

Needle is better. Guns dont work well. But you dont need one. Ur only 14. Dont do it.

the needle is the way to go, it doesn`t hurt at all & it`s the best way to get a nice, clean hole & minimize the risk of a bad piercing and/or infection...i have my nose pierced & it didn`t hurt a bit...just remember to go to a professional & follow all the after-care procedures & u should be fine...

Don't try it if you really don't want to, otherwise go to a proffesional. Jewellery and department stores will pierce it for you. But it might get infected sometime, or it may rip out, and I really wouldn't reccomend it.

i have one and it hurt like hell!!! i had it done with a needle. if you can't take the pain...don't do it. the best is when you get a cold and then you have to contend with having a metal ring through your stuffy nose. think about it. then get that thnig done! if you like pain, wuss!
