or the virgin Mary?

We don't, for either. The Pope is the Father of our church, which is what the word 'pope' means. He is the leader of our church as a ship has a captain to steer it. He has the authority to make decisions for our Church and thus is respected as a holy and educated man. But he is a man and we do not worship him in any sense.

Like I said, think of it as he is the captain of a ship, he is the authority on the ship and makes the decisions for the ship, but he makes them for the good of all, not for himself. Just as the ship mates don't worship their captain, Catholics do not worship the Pope.

As for the Virgin Mary, again, we DON'T worship her, but we do show reverence towards her as she is the Mother of God. Don't you think she deserves a special place? We pray to her as well as the saints and ask for their help and prayers to God and Jesus for us. Think of it as asking a friend to pray for you, but we're just asking those who have already entered the gates of heaven.

As God is our Father, Mary is our Mother and Jesus is our Savior, whom is married to the Church. Mary deserves the respect and reverence as she is the new Eve, as Jesus is the new Adam. (That's why Jesus calls her 'Woman' in the Bible instead of 'mother'. She is the new Even and this time has passed the test).

Do not confuse reverence with worship. We Catholics now whom we worship and that is God alone. If you want to know more about the Pope's job and place in the Church as well as Mary's, ask a priest or attend RCIA, there you can question anything you want and they can answer.

the position did you get the concept that Catholics worship the Pope? Please cite the source of this huge and earth shaking doctrine. no longer scriptural? have you ever examine the Bible fairly the gospels of Matthew and John? notwithstanding, no "information" is sufficient if the guy would not favor to trust. In Matthew 16:18 our Lord promised to construct His Church on Peter, the Rock (see the first question in this section). In John 21:15-17 Jesus, the solid Shepherd, turns His flock over to Peter with the admonition to "Feed my lambs . . . guard my sheep . . . Feed my sheep" (NIV). In Acts 15:7-14, on the council in Jerusalem, that's Peter who supplies you the answer and ends the dialogue on the priority of the thanks to admit Gentiles into the Church. in the course of the Bible on each and every occasion the Apostles are indexed, Peter is continually indexed first; a demonstration of his primacy. There are some who've claimed that Peter replaced into under no circumstances in Rome and for this reason under no circumstances replaced into the Bishop of Rome. This declare has noticeably a lot died out contained in the previous 30 years as archaeological excavations straight away less than the severe altar of St. Peter's Basilica have unearthed a tomb which matches the outline of the single in which Peter replaced into stated to were buried, finished with inscriptions pertaining to Peter. contained in the summer season of 1968 Pope Paul presented that the skeletal continues to be of Saint Peter were discovered and satisfactorily observed.

don't let them deceive you it is written in their catechism the worship of mary and angels. it is worded specifically this way. the Word is God so to receive false words or doctrine is worshiping the wrong God or idolatry.
