It is gathering and being together as the sun rises on the day of the resurrection. The 3rd day begins at sunrise.
It is also, first thing in the morning that the women went to the tomb and found it empty.
Gathering at sunrise to worship is just a way of commemorating that moment.

The only time the churches I'm familiar with meet at sunrise is on Easter Sunday, and the reasoning behind that is that the women went to Jesus' tomb in the morning, supposedly as the sun was coming up, and learned that Jesus had risen from the dead.

I ask the birds that too because they seem to wake up everyday singing worship songs to God -- not all of them seem to do that. When you think about it, everyday is a gift from God. I guess it is sort of like saying "thank you" right after someone hands you a gift.
No one else can hand me such a great gift, and it does seem very appropriate to thank God as He hands this great gift of love to us.
Then, if you think a little bit further, we think about the greatest gift of love that God gave us when His Son rose for us and light and eternal Life became available to this world for all those who will accept Jesus Christ. That is of course another Son rise, but it does make sense to many to connect this to the sunrise.

The meeting is what is important, not the timing. It is a time for those of like faith to assemble, encourage one another, worship together and learn of Him.

That is when the Bible said that Jesus had been raised from the dead and the tomb was found empty, even though guards were posted to prevent Him from being taken out.

I hate sunrise services. At my parent's church they have them when something else is going on at the main service, like confirmation or something, so if you want to go to church but you don't want to sit through something extra, you have that option.

It's a traditional means to an end that kind of gained prevalence in all religions... I suppose that in early morning one's mind is more groggy and less clear, and more prone to "religious experiences"?... It's kind of like fasting in that respect, traditional among all religion and happens to be more likely to let halucinations occur.

Not one thing. You can worship God anytime, anyplace, anywhere-public or personal.
Its old folklore and tradition not Biblical.
