At my house, I go around in my underwear. (I live with my dad and he does the same thing.) Yesterday, my mom brought me when she went to visit an old friend. The lady told me, plainly and clearly, to make myself at home. So I took off my shoes, pants, and shirt. My mom had a fit.
But the lady did say for me to make myself at home.

How old are you? That doesn't matter the fact in which you are asking the question tells me that you should know better. Let me put it plain and simple its not okay, i tell people to feel at home when they come over, that does not mean to feel free to roam around in your underwear. taking off shoes okay! pants NO! keep them on.

Hahaha! "Make yourself at home" is an idiom that means relax, feel as though you are in your own home. The key is feel as though you are at you own home, not act as you would. It is just an expression and isn't meant to be taken too literally, kind of "My home is your home." That doesn't mean you can sell that person's house!
What you did sounds really funny though! I walk around in my boxers all the time too!

Sorry but that is just wrong. When someone says make yourself at home, they mean be comfortable by sitting where you want, help yourself to whatever is in the fridge, watch tv etc, not strip down.

Oh, absolutely! You should always take all expressions literally. When someone says they'd give their right arm to know something, tell them, then grab an axe and chop it off. When someone to tells you to hold your horses, run out to the nearest barn and find a horse to hold. And when someone tells you to go jump in the lake, hope it isn't freezing!

Wow! I cant believe you actually did that. I dont think the lady meant to make believe you were at your own house and not hers. Its kinda funny though.

LOL! You're kidding of course. But just in case you are not, no it is not OK. And it is not OK to do it at home either. Underwear is to be worn exactly as its name implies, under wear. Other apparel.

You're joking right? If you're walking around a strangers house half naked you were asking for a scolding from your mom.
