hi. yesterday morning, i woke up with a sharp pain in my neck. only when i turn my neck to the right, or to the back. i think that i slept badly becuase my head was hanging from the end of the bed.

my mom said that the pain will pass after 1 day and sleep, but it did not. yesterday, i ttried ibuprofen (motrin), and tylenol (dw. 3-5 hours apart). i also tried ice and sleep. and hot water in the shower, but nothing seemed to make the pain go away. any advice? what should i do?

it is bearable but then i can nnot do many daily things and has refrained me from studying and doing my homework. please help. thanks. in advance.

happens to me constantly. not much to do. take ibuprofin and try a heating pad to relax the muscle. you can try lying on your back with a roll under you neck while using the heating pad. putting the roll under your neck allows your head to relax backward, taking strain off the muscle. feel better.

It sounds like you need to get a new pillow and possibly see a doctor or chiropractor. Call the doctor, especially if the pain continues or you have numbness, tingling, or weakness in your arm or hand. I used to get horrible neck aches.... but when I bought a feather pillow that "fits" the curve of my head and neck, the aches went away. I think you can get pillows with a "roll" that supports your neck and head as well. For the pain, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Apply heat or ice to the sore area. Or you can use ice for the first 48 - 72 hours, then use heat after that. Heat can be from a hot shower, a hot compress - just use a hot wet (wrung out) face cloth or hand towel, or you could try using a heating pad. Perform some gentle " range-of-motion " exercises -- up-and-down, side-to-side, and from ear-to-ear -- to gently stretch the neck muscles. Buy a hand held massager, or have someone gently massage the painful area for you. Sleep on a firm mattress - either without a pillow or with a pillow that "shapes" itself to your head, or a special neck pillow. I hope this helps..... But if it doesn't....... see a chiropractor, because you may need an adjustment to your spine or neck

you should go see a chriopacter as he helped me with my neck and I've been getting a good sleep since I went there.
