I would like to know if you can get DVD-R's that are different lengths like you used to be able to get video tapes. I believe you can get 80 minute ones, but can you get 120 minute ones? Thankyou.

You can get Single layer DVD-Rs that hold 4.7Gig and Double layer that hold twice as much.........

However, you DVD burner drive HAS to support Double layer to use double layer discs

You may be confusing CD-R with DVD-Rs. CD-Rs usually comes in 700 MB - 80 minute. DVD-R, on the other hand, comes in 120 minutes 4.7 GB, unless they're "double-layer", in which case, double that.

There are mini-DVDs, but those hold a LOT less. Just as there are mini-CDs.

In any case, the actual capacity depends on the bitrate and resolution of the video and audio tracks. It's possible to use "half-D1" (half-res) to save space. In fact, that's how some of those "old movie collections" managed to squeeze 3-4 feature length films into a single DVD.

But to answer your original question: there's DVD-R (1 size), and then there's DVD-R DL (double layer), which is 2x the size of DVD-R. There are really no other sizes until HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD becomes popular. :)
