The term 'Lucky Dog' is used as more of a expression of envy, while 'Lucky Duck' is more of term of endearment refering to someone or thing as a good luck charm.

Either one is acceptable. I haven't used lucky duck in a while, but I have used it before. I tend to use lucky (something that rhymes with duck) instead...but that's just my potty mouth.

I have heard both being used. "Lucky Dog" was heard more because of the dog food commercial wehre the big ol dog sings it.
