i just saw a tv commercial where a man was trying to help his daughter with her homework over the computer and the mother walks in and asks him why he hasn't washed the dog yet, he tells her that he is helping his daughter with her homework and the women replies "jack, leave her alone" and his daughter gives her father a look of contempt. then the mother says "go wash the dog" or something like that.

i am very offended by that commercial and NO that is not funny. that's the most vulgar form of sexism i've ever seen.

could you imagine a commercial where a father tells his wife to leave her son alone and to go iron his shirt?

and don't give me that "men always did that on tv" crap either. i've never in my life seen a commerical or tv show where a man is openly nasty to his wife and deliberately makes her look like a fool in front of her children and it's supposed to be funny.

you can make all the excuses you want, but that is just downright wrong!!! why do we allow it?

It can ONLY be offensive to certain people and we men don't fall into that category.

When I first saw the commercial, I interpreted it as the dad was so into the computer that he wouldn't do anything else but the computer itself. That's why the wife was ragging on him to do his other chores and the daughter was mean mugging him. It was like she was afraid he's take over the computer when mom wasn't looking.

However, you have obviously been offended by the commercial. Write a letter to the television station's manager and share your feelings, and then write a letter to the CEO of the computer company and express how biased you feel the commercial comes across. A lot of times you can find their e-mail address on the company web site.

If you feel this way, there are probably other men who do as well. Hopefully they have written letters, and maybe you can get a group of men from this site who can help. There really is power in numbers and power effects change.

Your question has certainly helped me be more aware of how advertising can affect all folks. I hope you have a great day! Annie

Because people wont turn off their Tv sets and send a message to the sponsors and writers of the tv shows and commercials. If enough people did this and wrote in to the stations and sponsors they might stop doing this. The commercial was probably made by an angry lesbian femenist.

Okay, this is aloud because it is supposed to be a joke And no, it is not sexism. Usually the parents give kids commands and chores, but this time the mom is giving the dad a chore to do. It's not that big of a deal.

I agree, and that doesn't sound as bad as the one that insinuated that children were being named after the car that their parents concieved them in. It's outrageous that we consider public discussion of things like that now appropriate.

I agree with u.But we allow it because perhaps thats what a group of people want to see..thats what they want to 'buy'...we cant help it till these groups change their perspectives..commercials show what people want to see, most of the times.
