ok, for starters it sounds like this person cannot be trusted and he may even be lieing to you! how do you know that whatever he has told you isnt a lie and that his pictures are who he says he is. youve obviously spoken to him on the phone so it is different than just speaking on the internet. if he has a different accent but still a nice person then he may just be shy or feel thretened by his own true background or origins.
please do not rush into things with him and if you do end up trusting him and want to meet him, take some frinds with you so you feel safe.
however, to begin with just speak to him and get to know the real him and what he actually does for a living. dont get caught up with someone you dont know, you never know he may a dangerous man!!
good luckxxx

He says he's white and from Chicago but he has an accent? He could be white and be south african, but why would he say he was from Chicago then? And he's working in Nigeria? No, I wouldn't trust him! And anyway, I would never take anything anyone says online at face value. I know a lot of people tell the truth, but people lie online a lot more than they do in person. You can be anything you want to be online, and people take advantage of that.

I have 3 girls in Russia and one in Ghana that all fell in love with me over the internet. Funny thing is, they all want me to send money.

Nigeria is the con artist capital of the world.

He is going to plan on coming to America to meet you but then at the last minute need money for some reason. Usually to pay for bribes to get his paperwork or because there was an accident on the way.

He will want you to send the money via Western Union.

There are a lot of sites about these internet scams. Don't ever send money. If he is for real he will find a way to come back to Chicago without you having to pay his bills.

I think you can find someone locally that will not be hitting you up for cash in the near future. Sorry.

SCAM

I would not trust him.

Be wary. Don't give him any personal information.

If he sounds south African, he's working in Lagos Nigeria, and says he is from Chicago, a dozen red flags would be popping up right about now.

You must be that girl who kept emailing me and then wanting to charge me $4.95 a minute to talk to you last year.

I've been on many dating websites, and you have to have an open mind about the whole dating website scene. You can tell a real picture and a "model magazine" type picture. If something doesn't sound right, then guess what, it's not.

The above scenario is true, I had this girl email me every day for about a week, then she wanted me to call her, for $4.95 a minute. I had another girl wanting to meet me the next day for a drink, only problem was she lived in hawaii, and I don't. So don't take the website dating scene seriously.

Take whatever he says with "a pinch of salt". Many people tell lies a lot over tne net and he has not proved himself an exemption. Enjoy your friendship with him and don't trust anyone you have not known one on one.For the records Nigerians are nice people generally,Mike and Bruce M are just being mean. Con artists exists every where in the world not just in Nigeria. I am a Nigerian and I have NEVER don't that to any one.

Just because someone gives you attention doesn't mean you trust them. Make some friends another way if you want trust. Trust isn't big on the Internet because people find it much easier to lie. Having said that I'm sure telling lies isn't just a trait from the Internet. The Internet just makes it more difficult to tell and easier for unscrupulous people to build up a relationships making it easier to pull the wool over your eyes.

I would trust someone on the Internet!!!!....I'm on here...lol!!!!...But trust no one from an African country or anyone says they are a westerner working in an African country. Particularly Nigeria or Ghana. there are so many scams coming out of these countries!!!!!

If he is lieing , its probably to impress you, he might of not wanted you to known he was South African incase you would think "Eww" If this is the case, hes probably too embarresed to say , that he was lieing

Or he might just have an South African Accent

Are you being racist by saying he looks white? I am black and me and my white girlfriend have been dating for a while and we met on the internet. Over the last 6 years I have met quite a few females online and have had good experiences. Even the ones that never made it to dating we became friends. I would say meet him at starbucks or some highly public place and sit down and talk. Go for it, why not?
