Selling my 93' Nissan Altima and I've always like Cherokees. My friend is selling a 92' Cherokee (4D, automatic, 4WD) for $1000. The only thing wrong is the CV joints. He's a good friend and also the maintenance director at the hotel I work at (and he's very good with cars). So basically, I know he won't try to cheat me, it's just a matter of determining whether I should sell my 93' Nissan Altima GXE for this 92' Cherokee. I've always like the way they looked and people have told me they basically "last forever" (which people said about my Altima but I've had to replace 2 fuel injectors). But anyways, this Cherokee has 150,000 miles on it. Let me know your opinion on this deal. Thanks in advanced for the response!

well i have a 1990 jeep cherokee laredo 4d 4x4 auto it has 170,000 and is having some cooling issues but it sat for a few years so thats one of the worst things you can do for a car. i would ask him if you can get him down to the $800-$900 range.. if he is good with cars and maintained it go for it it will last a few more years....good luck

That's a pretty good price for a '92. I paid 4K for my '98 about two years ago. They're very reliable vehicles. I would find out about the CV joints, because the XJ has a solid front live axle which is why it's so durable off-road. Your friend may have been talking about the U-joints or the ball joints. These aren't that big of a deal to replace. Good luck.

The XJ Cherokee doesn't have C/V joints. He may be referring to the U-Joints, in which case, it is a relatively simple repair. I have had a fleet of XJs and every one went over 200K. As with any car, you will have to make some repair at some point, but the XJ has proven to be very reliable over the years. And the price is pretty good too. I sold my '87 XJ for $1000 and the buyer was overly happy with the price. I'd buy it.

Jeeps are really good especially with the 4.0 liter motor, you will want to watch the automatic transmission, keep the fluid changed and you should be fine, they really do last well, at least in my experience I've had two with that motor and both did great. The only down side I see in your trade is that the Altima will get a whole lot better gas mileage, but that's just something you need to consider.

Whenever given the chance to buy a jeep buy it. They're great trucks, go anywhere, and a person can do most repairs on them. The 4.0L Inline 6 engines are bulletproof and will give many miles troublefree given they're taken care of. The CV joints aren't that big of a deal to have replaced.
