You need to get Cathy Howses Ultra Black Hair growth book. Ive had real results following her regimen. You need to make sure you moisturise your hair at least once a day (though I would reccommend twice/three times daily if it bad condition) with a water based moituriser which doesnt contain alchohol. If you look online you will see the worst ingredients to put on your hair and you can check the products you buy.
Cocunut oil, jojoba and olive oil are very good to nourish your ends, which should be your primary focus when looking after your hair. Instead of concentrating on your scalp (dont use heavy greases) be very careful to nourish the ends of your hair very regularly. Your hair is always growing but if the ends of your hair get damaged and break off you will not see any length.
The baggie method is where you put a lot of moisturiser on your hair then add an oil to seal it in and put a baggie/shower cap/plastic bag over your hair for a long period of time to soak in, a lot of women find this helps.
Seamless combs are good because they dont have that seam along the teeth that rips hair out, DO NOT use a small tooth comb if your hair doesnt agree with it. Use fingers for now or buy a good wide tooth/afro pick to get tangles out.
I cant really give any more suggestions as I dont know whether your hair is natural or relaxed but if you have more details pm me.
The long hair care forums, Black hair media, and hair boutique are very useful messege boards where Black women discuss their regimen for healthy hair and growth challenges.

I suggest trying Doo Grow products, hair mayonise, and I think it is call Dr Miracle (hair treatment for african american hair). I recommend trying not to wear braids that often or not that tight around your edges. Braids can cause hair to break around your edges if they are too tight but braids also can cause hair to grow because you don't have to relax your hair when it is braided but up to you. Furthermore, keep your hair moisturized with sometype of grease. I suggest Frenchee super gro scalp ointment conditioner and hair dress it cost about 3 bucks, (beauty supply store) it smells like tar but I think it contributed to my hair growth. I used it while my hair was braided to keep my scalp from itching. However, once applied to your hair you can't wash your hair for 3 days so read the directions on the back. When looking for products look for things that will strengthen, thicken, and grow your hair. Moreover , use items with tea tree oil, olive oil and try taking vitamins that will grow your hair. You may also want to go to a determaologist to see if you have a more serious scalp problem. You could try going natural for a while and go to salon get your hair press instead of relaxed. I hope this was helpful.

Washing your hair every day can actually be bad for you hair. Try washing it every other day, and applying conditioner in between washings. It will help keep you natural moisture, and reduce breakage.

If you just get the ends trimmed once a month (On a new moon) it will help your hair grow and stop breakage. Also, use Nioxin products (they really work) to stop breakage and make hair grow

Do you get your hair braided or weaved alot? Because that causes hair breakage.
If so you need to go to a salon and ask for a restorer and to keep it looking healthy moiserize it 3 times every day. Comb your hair to the min. because that pulls your hair out also.
To make your hair longer its easy as putting it into a tight poneytail.
Hope this helped!!

ever wonder why not every one can grow their hair down to the floor?
It's because their hair has a natural growth length and it wont grow longer no matter what you do... it will break off
you might be in that situation
of course condition it daily and cut it about every 3 months for healthy hair.. and don't pony tail it or use anything that will break your hair or cause it any damage.. in other words be gentle to your hair and treat is good
good luck

get a deep contitioning treatment,
there is one called egg mayonaise, by root stimulator is really good, you have to put it in then leave it to process under a dryer.
and then get a leave in conditoner like motions to, give you hair extra protection, so it dont get so dry,
then make sure you are putting some type of grease in your hair like optimum care oil,
and also get lusters pink moisturizing lotion, so you can put on your hair everyday
