if he is always like that...then it's always like that.
but if he's not.....then that's something wrong(that's why u are so worried about it).
but if it's the first time...then there should not be a problem.
i have six cats and all of them wake up from their dream whenever they hear the cat food tin shaking. they never back off.
so..when they don't eat the biscuits that i give..it always mean that they are sick.
there is one special situation though, if u have scold or beat or mistreat your cat for whatever mistakes that he did...he will try to be mad at you by staying away from you when he usually would be up your lap sleeping..and tend not to accept a treat that u give.
i live with my mom..and whenever i scold my cat for being on the dining table....that little fella...will be mad at me and won't come when i call or won't eat anything from my hands. but..if it's my mom...it's different....lol
good luck....

If you're waking up your cat to give him a treat, he probably won't accept the offer. Most cats prefer being left alone to sleep. Yeah, they sleep the majority of the day, which can be a bit frustrating when you're home and in the mood to play with them, but it's better to let them sleep. They need a lot more sleep than we humans do, for whatever reason. (Cats can sleep anywhere from 15 to 19 hours a day, depending on the cat.)

Does your cat turn down treats when he's awake? If so, there are a lot of possibilities.

One: he isn't interested at that time. No big deal - just put the treat away and try again later.

Two: he does not like those treats. My cat was introduced to Feline Greenies. Now she turns up her nose at pretty much every other treat. So I give her Greenies, and she rarely turns down the offer.

Three: kitty's sick. If your cat's dietary habits are otherwise normal (as in: he still eats at mealtimes), then this probably isn't a big concern.

Also: what type of food do you feed? If you feed your cat soft food but offer hard treats (like Greenies), then your cat might be turning down the treats because of a dental problem.

Some cats don't like to be bothered when they're asleep: This is true.

There is one more thing, though: Is the treat you're trying to give your kitty one of those on recall? When the alert first went out, one of my friends had a puppy who refused to eat the tainted food. It confused her until she read the article.

Of course kitties don't like to be bothered when they're asleep - do you like to?

I wouldn't worry if he doesn't like treats - just means he's a very health concious kitty! No seriously, he's probably just nervous. It isn't a problem anyway, as long as he has an appetite and is eating his normal food fine.

Usually no they don't like to be bothered when they are asleep. Try putting the treat in or around his/her food bowl;some cats won't eat out of your hand.Don't try to force it to eat this treat, because it will not eat it and you may end up scratched or bitten.

Sometimes they don't like to be waken. I have a cat who goes into the bag of treat packets and brings me two pouches of treats so everyone can have some (never taught her to do this). I just put several little piles on the floor and they eat it when they are ready and then some of mine will come to me wanting more. He may just want you to put it down and back off. He will take them from your had at some point and time.

Maybe its got that stuff in it that killed all those cats. My moms friend had 4 cats and all but 1 died from the treats she gave them, and a lady got sick eating her dogs food trying to get it to eat it.

He might not have been hungry. Generally when cats get up they don't go straight to their food bowls & eat.
Good luck*
