Well the theobromine in the chocolate is poisonous to dogs, and the sugar is just burning the teeth right out of the dog's head... Making the dog hyper and likely you are quickly moving towards a diabetic dog.

Many people have already told you that chocolate is poisonous to dogs. If you have already been giving this to your dog, I would suggest a check up at the vet.
Then, while you are there, ask your vet to suggest a healthy reward treat. You may also want to ask your local kennels, or look for a facility that trains dogs. They should have many healthier alternatives for food treats, and can teach you how to offer rewards without making the reward food. Police dogs and service dogs are rewarded in ways that do not involve food.
Good luck.

Chocolate poisons the dog's liver, so I would recommend using a piece of cheese and breaking off a small bit for a reward.

Well, animal societies have stated that Chocolate is poisonous to dogs, so I recommend not using them. If you already gave him these, take him to a poison center or an emergency vet immediatly!
The signs that it is dying of it are:
-Diarrea
-Throwing up chocolate
-fainting and/or listless
...or any other way to get chocolate out of it's system.
Chocolate isn't good for a dog's colon, I suggest you better do something!

As everyone else has said, chocolate is bad for dogs. There are some "chocolate" flavored yogurt treats that you can get at most pet stores and my dogs love them. They are obviously designed for dogs and are not harmful to them. You might want to consider switching over to them.
Good luck!

You should never give a dog chocolate, it can kill them. Granted, the darker the chocolate and the more they consume, the more damage is done but why risk or encourage chocolate consumption?
If you want to give your pet something with chocolate "flavor" try carob chips.

do NOT use human chocolate as a reward for a dog!
Fact - two squares of dark chocolate is poisonous enough to kill a labradore... so a couple of M&Ms are enough to kill a Shitzhu.
if your dog eats too many, take it to a vet right away so they can induce vomiting. some dogs survive eating a heap of chocolate - but do you really want to take the chance?
If you want to use chocolate, get dog choccys from your local pet store.
