I've just been given a camera today by a friend, a Canon EX Auto QL. Is there anyone who can give me some more information about it? - Such as maybe the year it could be from, the quality of it, how easy it is to use?
I took a few pictures of it:

Sorry, they aren't such good quality pics & here's a pic I found online of it:

This is a single lens reflex (SLR) camera that uses 35mm film. It is not a digital camera. The Canon EX dates from the 1970s and is an entry-level SLR camera. With a good cleaning and assuming it's in good working order, it will take fine 35mm film pictures and it will be good for teaching yourself the basics of photography. The light meters built into these older SLR cameras frequently failed, so you may have to get an external light meter. Otherwise, shoot a roll of film and see what you think.

First, your camera is digital so it takes videos. Delete the word "film" from your photographic vocabulary. Second, its too bad you didn't do more research before purchasing your camera. Had you done so, you would have a) discovered the lack of auto focus when shooting videos with the T3i and b) discovered that the Sony SLT line of cameras such as the a37, a57, a65 and a77 all allow full-time continuous phase-detect auto focus when shooting still images or video. The only solution now is to teach someone in your family to manually focus when they're shooting videos of you.
