I know it's a dog. I know it must be part Labradore? But what is the doodle part from? If it's a poodle, wonder why they didn't call it a LabraPoodle?

It's a cross between and lab and a poodle. In other words, it's a mutt. Those individuals who are producing mutts and dubbing them with "Designer dog" names are motivated solely by greed and are not only perpetrating an unscrupulous scam on the public, but doing harm to the very dogs they breed. They do NO health screenings or genetic testing at all. They do not even breed to a standard, (because there is none). It's a disgraceful practice, especially given the fact that there are thousands of similar mixed breeds and GENUINE purebreds available in shelters and rescues for a nominal sum.

A labradoodle is known as "a hybrid" or a "designer dog" but is not a real breed. It is a mix between Poodle and Labrador.

They are generally mixed together to produce a low-shed or no-shed lab-like dog. Because labs are very popular but not many people want to deal with the shedding.

Some "breeders" will try to sell you a labradoodle to you for a higher price than a purebred! This is only a fad so don't fall for this. If you want a mixed-breed dog look in a shelter or rescue.

You're correct. The labradoodle is a mix between a labrador and a poodle. It supposedly has the loyalty and nice personality of a lab, but the lack of shedding of a poodle!

It is a mix.....sold as a so called Designer breed. The original idea was to breed a seeing eye dog that didn't shed for a person in Australia.

Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are made up names for expensive mutts.

Mixing two breeds you cannot predict which parent the dog will take after. Some doodle mixes shed heavily.

doodle sounded cuter I guess?

Don't pay money for a mix, you can find them at the pound.

It is just an overprice mutt and you are correct a cross between a lab and a poodle, I guess some figured Labradoodle sounded cuter and there could rake in bigger dollars, and sadly a way to fool people into spending more dollars on a puppy that normally would sell for $50 by referring to them as designer dogs, and the breeders of them were right there are a lot of fools ready to part with their hard earn money simply by giving a mutt a fancy name

A Labradoodle is a relatively "new" breed composed of a Lab/Poodle cross. The hype is that they are supposedly hypoallergenic and less prone to allergies. I work in a vet clinic and haven't seen any real cases of the things that plague both poodles and labs--ear infections, atopy, etc.--in labradoodles. They are usually pretty sweet-tempered, cute (big, soft, terrier-looking) and eager-to-please. There is also the "Golden Doodle," which is a Golden Retriever/Poodle cross.

You've got the mix down right. It is a mixed breed of a lab and a poodle. And, like many other people said here, it is a mutt.

Someone yesterday listed this link to give you more information on poodle mixes, and I think it is very appropriate for your question.

A high dollar designer mutt, haha. Not a recognized breed. However, a very popular "breed" at the moment.
They are a cross between the labrador retriever (any color, black, chocolate, yellow) and a standard poodle.
They are supposed to shed less, and be less apt to cause allergic reactions in their 2-legged siblings.
They are highly active intelligent sweet dogs.
I work with several in a doggie day care. The fact that their owners feel a need to keep them occupied in daycare should give you an idea as to the activity level...
Incidently we also have some Goldendoodles who come, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle; they also are very hyper very sweet dogs.
If you decide to get one, go to a reputable breeder; do not get a "first generation" dog.

It's a mutt. It is a labrador that was allowed or accidently bred a poodle. Rather than trying to sell the mutts in the paper for $50, they make up some fantastic name so that people think that it's a real breed and pay the so called breeder large amounts of money for a mutt. Very sad and unethical marketing technique.
