Well, he dropped GSP, and that's not an easy thing to do. Matt Hughes looms big on the horizon, and there is a lot of talent in that division, but Serra wasn't in that championship ring by accident.
Congrats, Matt.

Give the guy a chance, he just demolished one of the greatest fighters in the UFC. If he is persistant and can bring it every time like he did, yea he will undoubtley keep the belt. Think about it, in a BJJ match, I would put money on Serra over Hughes any day and now that his stand up has improved, well who knows he may just be able to knock out Hughes as well. Either way the man deserves it, he won that fairly and it was not at all a fluke. St Pierre completely had a chance to jump back and recover or grapple after the slip and before the first devastating punch to his chin, but he let his guard down and got knocked out. I love it.............

Well if we learned anythign from the GSP-Serra fight it is that anything is possible in the UFC. No one thought Serra had any chance of beating GSP and he did, so yes I think he can defend the title more then once. Serra is a tough kid and a talented ground fighter, I think and hope he can defend the title a number of times.

Matt Serra won the fight but watch the fight again. GSP stumbled and recovered from the first punch and then slipped by the cage. Matt Serra took full advantage of this and unloaded. GSP tried to recover but he couldn't. It's all there watch it again. If GSP wouldn't have slipped I don't think Serra would have won at all. Can Serra defend it again? Yes but not against GSP or Hughes.

My gawd some of you people...
Matt Serra winning while an upset was no fluke. Serra is very heavy handed and on on the ground he's phenominal!! His cardio is always very good and he comes with a plan. His only shortcoming is he's short. He has the ability to beat any fighter in the welterwieght division and he may hold the title for awhile.

Matt Serra has only been stopped once by the famous spinning back fist of Shonie Carter. His other 3 loses were decision loses one of which could've went to either guy. Don't sleep on Matt Serra or he'll put you to sleep, just ask GSP!

if matt serra can beat GSP and GSP destroyed Matt Hughes.. then perhaps matt serra is well above the competition in his devision. he's also a teacher and a mentor and has the smarts to stay on top. so he falls for a backfist once in a blue moon. he wont be falling for that again.

Yeah hes to short to take on Liddel is some sort of open weight challenge. But he can definetly defend the title, I say he could actually ice George St. Pierre again. But St. Pierre is going to continue to get better, and he will hold the title again.

Depends on who he draws for the fight. He does have more experience than people realize and has been around for awhile. I still don't think he'll be champ again though.

Unless he does like Tito did and dodge everybody he will lose it. Matt Hughes should beat him
