Hi Guys. I have a 33 lb. 5 month old pitbull pup. I feed him canidae dogfood (lamb) 3x a day, 1 cup per feeding.

I was wondering, cause i give him milk everyother day. sometimes i mix in 1 raw egg+milk+kibble.

question i have is? is this bad for pitbulls? or is it beneficial?
my pup is on puppy vitamins too, :) just in case thats a factor.

oh and btw, my pup is not lactose intolerant.. he handles milk very well. thanks. :D your answers will be greatly appreciated. :)

I'd skip the milk. Although your pup "handles" milk ok, doesn't mean he will continue to do so. Dogs generally don't need milk. As for the raw egg, you run the risk of him catching salmonella giving him the egg raw.

IF you want to give him milk on occasion use goat's milk. Also feeding a good quality food, you do not need to give him vitamins on top of that. Too many vitamins are not good.

Also raw eggs may not be the best thing for him. Google feeding dogs raw eggs and you'll see.

I like to use a good quality kibble and not much else.

3x daily feeding is good. If you notice him eating less at a meal you can go to 2x daily as he gets older. Keep him lean, not fat as he grows. Too fat is hard on the joints. Learn what a healthy lean puppy looks like...not skinnny.

I feed the amount that works for my dog...sometimes the amounts recommended on the bag are not what is right for my dog. Sometimes lower or higher is right for my dog.
So pay attention to your dog and learn what works for him.

If you want to give him a good supplement you might look at Dr. Foster and Smith's website. They sell some good ones.
Missing Link is good. But again, on good food, you shouldn't need to add anything.

regards

ALL dogs are lactose intolerant. this is because they lack the enzyme needed the break it down in the stomach. They are not human!

whether or not he "handles it well" now doesnt mean he always will, and it doesnt mean he doesnt feel sick after he has had it - you may just not notice. "low fat" has nothing to do with lactose. stop giving him milk - its particularly bad for puppies and he doesnt need it and it does nothing for him.

secondly, while you can give your dogs raw eggs, dont do it on a daily basis. this is because it may lead to biotin deficiency, due to the avidin contained in egg whites, which binds to Biotin interfering with its absorption. an egg once a week is fine, even though if they are being fed properly they shouldnt need it.

lastly, you shouldnt give a dog vitamins on a regular basis unless a vet prescribes it. excess vitamins can cause many other problems and can even poison and kill them, and a million other things.

Just feed your dogs a normal healthy doggie diet. this should include good quality dry food, raw meat and bones - no human food.

dogs don't need to drink milk; are you giving as a treat or because you think/feel he should have it for nutritional reasons? A good quality dog food will give him all he needs & if you're giving vitamins on top of that then there's no benefit to giving milk. Stick to dog treats or just give a tiny bit of milk once in a great while as a treat. No benefits or harm to it but they just don't need it.

VERY BAD for puppies and dogs regardless of breed.

Use goats milk, a little cottage cheese, a little plain yogurt. Never whole milk. The cottage cheese and yogurt are great digestive aids.

You are using a GREAT food, and vitamins on top of that. NO MILK.

I would skip the milk as it doesn't contain anything + to the diet for him. but rather if you like the dairy go for yougart which also has bacteria which is good for them or cottage cheese. and having him on a super food is the best step you have taken. keep up with the great diet.

Yogurt or cottage cheese would be better for your dog than milk. Dogs truly have no need for the milk :) Otherwise, your feeding regimen sounds great!

Dogs and cats would probably be better without mild in their diets. the milk they get from their parents is different than our milk it has much mor anioxidants n stuff and is all together.
